I suggest first and foremost ASKING THEM TO STOP and CONFIRMING that you have not given consent for them to search.

I do not suggest HOSTILE ACTION. Your lawyer can fight the search in court later if it comes down to that. Many police cruisers come with video cameras these days, and the police are generally adhering to the law when it comes to search and seizure. However, LOCAL YOKELS do seem to still be narrowminded and abusive.

Best of luck, and please do not consent to a search and give up your Constitutional Rights. People fought and died for those rights.

1. talk to an attorney to see if the search was indeed illegal

depending on your state they can search an area within reach of the driver for officer safety (look for a weapon)

also if they had an active call about a crime involving a car just like the one you were driving, then they would have probable cause for a search ( in some states)

Next of course they can ask you, and if you say yes they can search.

Next if you are driving and they impound the car, they don't search it but they inventory it ( same thing but still legal)

Theres some magnificent information superhighway content advising of your rights in each and every jurisdiction be extremely often police can no longer seek for until eventually they have both permission or a warrant. once they do enter or seek for without permission or a warrant you're recommended to now no longer hinder them yet to mainly repeat "i do not provide permission for this seek for". more effective coaching can be chanced on doing a google as above. entire my own view is that being courteous and compliant will see all of it go a lot less confusing fantastically if the cop you run for the length of is a PSYCHO as purely a number of them are.

I don't think there is any such thing as an illegal search in this country anyhow, not anymore for sure. Just remember what happened next time you vote.

make sure you get the officers name and badge number.... after that it depends on the outcome... did you get arrested? then get a lawyer. Are you just annoyed... ? go ask to see the chief and file a formal complaint.
