I remember discussions at home about him, but it was long ago. Now, studying up on him and feeling a tad paranoid over our Governments incursions on our personal freedoms, I got to wondering if the big eye in the sky will just run us all through a computer and spew out 'the likley suspects'. Watch out, Yahooers!
I'm not too keen about the prospect given that having been raised in the land of the free, I speak my mind.
How long will that last for all of us?

I remember because people my grandparents knew during the Great Depression were investigated, also an uncle in the music industry. They were not that famous!

As for yelling commie at everyone that's a re herring tactic that hopefully went out in the 50s & 60s. Even commies aren't commies any more, where have you been?

Thanks. Everyone should watch Good Night And Good Luck. Murrow was a real newsman and had the courage to tell it like it was. Now, $$$$$ are the bottom line!

I was here during the Mc Carthy witch hunt and I shudder to think how little privacy we have today. Every time someone tells us this is the land of freedom , then I wonder where it has gone.

Hopefully, indefinitely. Every asserted right is a trade-off between one person and another, or one person and a group (could be the whole country), and the Constitution exists in part to attempt to draw the lines appropriately. This is not at all a trivial task. What are we to make of the draft, for example, which is explicitly prohibited under the terms of the Thirteenth Amendment? Or of the incarcerations of the Japanese during WWII? Best defense is to stay alert, and question your representatives whenever they do something you think wrong. If you don't like the answer, vote for somebody else.

I doubt that you will be a likely suspect for terrorist activities. However, your comparison to McCarthyism or the Salem Witch Trials I find quite sufficient to describe modern day America.

You can be picked out of the blue as a suspect these days and have your whole life evaluated without a just cause. That is disturbing, but people in Congress are working on curbing abuse, and people in Law Enforcement are using their decision making more judiciously.

My advice is: don't worry about it. You will just stress yourself out and cause your body and mind pain and suffering. If you want to become more active, do something like VOTE OUT THE BUMS IN CHARGE OF THIS BULLCRAPOLA or VOICE YOUR CONCERNS to your Representative or Congressman.

Good question! I agree with g's response that they are only looking for the big guys now, but its a slippery slope. The longer it goes the more people will fit the profile. Technology makes it easier every day. Right now our only safety is in numbers. Yahoo!'s (et al) actions in China could be an ominous omen.

As much as it give the liberals and their communist and socialist bedfellows much dismay, release of government records have vindicated McCarthy's claims about the communist infiltration into our government. It is the communist sympathizing liberal media who still blaspheme his name. I challenge every politically uneducated dolt to do some research and discover that the communists never went away. It is a matter of public record. They became Liberal Democrats, and in some cases Independent Candidates. They're still here, hiding behind other masks. God, what a country of uninformed idiots we have become. We deserve what befalls us. Stupidity has a price.

What incursions on your personal freedoms have you suffered? Not somebody you heard about on the Chicken Noodle News Network but you personally?
