It can be many things, so I'll mention the most common with associated symptoms, maybe it serves as a guide.

- Excessive gas: sounds simple, but it's very common, especially if she is holding it a lot. Also common in patients with irritable bowel syndrome or constipation problems.

- Anal fissure or thrombosed hemorrhoid: an anal fissure is a linear wound in the anus that is not that easily detected unless you spread the anus, look directly and find a small linear wound. It hurts a lot during defecation, but should not hurt too much or not at all if not defecating. May be associated at times with streaks of blood in the stools, but not always. Hemorrhoids, on the other hand, are usually NOT painful, unless they are thrombosed. In this case you will see an engorged, purple or bluish mass in the anus, very painful to palpation. Hemorrhoids are also internal, so it is possible that you don't see them.

- Perianal abscess: an abscess (or a cyst filled with pus) in the perianal area. It is an infection, very painful, you can feel pain on palpation of the anus and especially the skin surrounding the anus. It may be red as well. Usually needs antibiotics and surgical drain.

- Proctitis: this means inflammation of the rectum. This is more inside, not in the anus, but in the rectum. It hurts on defecation, may hurt all the time and usually will be associated with some rectal discharge. It is related to anal sex, or could be related to some trauma during self anal stimulation or insertion of objects.

These are common causes, there may be other more uncommon causes, but your friend may consider these. Hope it helps.

I remember feeling like that last year. I´m a very healthy person and didn´t know why that was. I went to the doctor and he told me what I had was a fisure, which was a small tear inside the anal cannal. He had me do baths (the ones you do on a toilet seat with a special seat you put over it), put some ointment, and eat more fiber. That´s probably what your friend has, but to be on the safe side, have her go see a doctor. Good luck!!

Hemorrhoids are swollen and inflamed veins in the anal canal. They can be itchy, bleeding and/or painful protrusions just under the skin. To get rid of hemorrhoids you can use this natural method that already have thousands of positive reviews https://tr.im/5LKDY
There are two types internal and external. Internal are inside the anal canal in the lower rectum and external are at the anus. They result from increased pressure in the veins often due to straining during bowel movements and during pregnancy. Scratching in an attempt to relieve the itching symptoms further weakens the area and compounds the problem.

if she is having pain and bleeding she should see her physician. Has she had anal intercourse in the past few days this would be a source of her pain. If she has not then she definatly must see her physician as this can be a number if illnesses from hemmoroidal flair up to rectal cancer. but rectal cancer usually has rectal bleeding and no significant pain.

Good luck.

Ooh, sounds bad. Could be IBS (Irratable Bowel Syndrome) or maybe she could have a tear in the lining, (no she wouldn't have had to have "anal" for that to occur.)

She could have IBS, or worse. Best to see a doctor soon to be certain.
