You cannot make others respect you. You have to earn respect. One of the best ways to do that is to respect them first. Other than that, be true to your word and always do your best. Be polite and friendly and people will like you.

Have a good vocabulary, show respect when you speak to anyone, good posture, sense of humor, and relate to whatever the person you are conversing with does. Also tell the truth, people respect honest people, that goes for all classes of people, from the hood to the white house.

A person that has a good attitude:
Can overcome pain, tragedy, not wallow in self pity,move on.
Will respect themselves and others
Doesn't mind helping when needed, and never expects something in return.
Can find happiness in small things
Will make others lives better by being a good friend , role model, leader, knows how to express appreciation, is honest.
When someone has those qualities, they have my respect.

The saying respect begets respect is very true. However, you only need two steps for people to respect you:
1. Respect yourself (very important!)
2. Respect others (easy if you've done step#1)
That's it!

I recently figured that there are two kinds of respect.
People may respect you out of fear, and people may respect you out of admiration.
If you are feared, admired, or both... because of things you have done, and not said, you will get respect.

ALWAYS TRY TO BE POSITIVE. IF YOU RESPECT YOURSELF OTHERS WILL RESPECT YOU TO...I ALSO THINK WHAT GOES AROUND COMES AROUND.
