Most of us, except for those who have the deep seated conviction that they can "help" bring about "the end times" so that they can enjoy "the rapture", do not want the world to be consumed by war. We do not want all the suffering and the deaths of innocents by the millions.
So how do we stop it. Clearly, right now we are on the path to more war. The Bush administration wants to provoke more conflict and think they can win a world war. The terrorists are willing to die for their cause and their personal perversion of their own faith.
How can people of rational minds, regardless of what faith they hold to if any, stop the fundamentalists from imposing their distorted version of "the will of God" upon us all?

I believe we all could start a movement using the internet, to spread the word and convince our brothers to allow peace and prosperity to all. I also believe there are more of us (those who wish to see freedom and prosperty for all) than there are of them (those that wish to impose their authority or suppressive means to take from another for their own benefit) And together maybe we can find a way for this to happen.
My motto; God is Love, the Devil is Hate. The question is; whose side are you on, and for who will you stand up?
Another thought to ponder; Except for putting an end to Slavery, Nazism, communism, and fascism, war has never solve anything.

Your comment about Bush is telling as is your assumption about that people who want to see the end times come are also "willing" to try and speed it up.
There will never be peace in the middle east so long as 1 militant/radical terrorist remains alive. The Bush administration is AT LEAST trying something different that all the previous have tried and all have failed. Far as I'm concerned Israel should make herself safe and no one else should interfere, you don't understand/care that those terrorists will stop only when every last Jew is dead.
War is hell. but the alternative for some people is death of all who they decide to hate.

You can't stop religious belief.. And you can hardly stop politics.. as it has everything to do with business and personal outlook.
So.. there's your answer.
By the way, even if you and I built a team to investigate this-- how to stop it, and keep it from happening again. No one would look at it. No one would care.
Why? Because this is our world. This is hell on earth. Earth is meant to be this way. Aside from religion, earth is earth.. no one knows ****. No one knows how we got here, who we really are, how we came about, etc.., etc.., etc...
So, even bringing this up, OR searching for the meaning AND finding a solution is all moot.
Which is the latter answer.. It doesn't matter beacuse its not going to improve anything anyway.
