The 1990 suburban has a 350 and is throttle body. I do get an engine check light. I read in the haynes manual about how to clear out the codes by disconnecting the battery. I then drove the car again and got an engine light. I took a jumper wire and connected it to the two terminals on the computer trouble code output and read the flash codes. It told me that the TPS needed checked and that I had a lean exhaust. This engine has been rebuilt and all the sensors are brand new.

Just because the sensors are new does not mean they are working properly. Sometimes the computer is getting a signal that it doesn't completely understand. Only right way to diagnose this is to have a factory mechanic plug into a computer. Sometimes a loose connection or a little dirt or corrosion can give a faulty reading. Or there might be a broken electrical wire somewhere. All kinds of annoying little things are possible.

I suspect your TPS needs to be adjusted in its position on the throttle body. For example, on a '88 Jeep Cherokee, you need to loosen 2 screws and rotate the TPS into proper position and tighten it up. But you need to measure 2 voltage values across 3 wires at the back of the TPS body. You need a good TPS installation guide to do it properly.

Does your Haynes manual provide more insight? Maybe there is a Chevrolet or GM owners forum on the web that can provide a better description.

Forget reading 'flash' codes, take it in and have it run through a real scanner to get all the error codes, have them do a print out and you will then have some idea of what you will need to do. Something as simple as a gas cap that isn't making a good seal can give you an error code.
