okay, here's the deal. I am living with my mother 45 miles east of Los Angeles. I made some stupid business and financial decisions last year, so she is helping me out. I have about $1,000 dollars to my name.

anyways, I have been looking for work around here to no avail. I finally got offered a full time position with benefits for 30 thousand dollars in Los Angeles. I've been looking at apartments, but they would take up my entire savings and I won't get paid form this job for three weeks. So iI am thinking of commuting, getting a paycheck or two under my belt and then moving out. What do you think?

Take it until you can find something better. But I wouldn't move out until you could afford something comfortably. In the meantime you can contribute funds to your Mom and help her around the house with home upkeep.

Good luck!

Well, it's good you do have some money saved up. It's more than I have ever had. I will tell you this- once you live on your own, it is going to be difficult to have any kind of savings. $30,000 ain't sh*t in LA. Even if you get an apartment 45 miles east of LA, it's still gonna be expensive. You have to get a car- I mean, it's LA (assuming you don't have a car already). Save up some more money, get a few paychecks, find a roommate. You don't have to have your own place. If you don't mind living with your mother you should continue to live there but pay her some rent. Wait until you get a promotion or something, and when you make about $40,000 then it would be easier to live on your own.

Best of luck to you.

That is probably your best option. It is better to get AHEAD of your money situation than, like most Americans, to be falling behind.

Commuting to LA is a pain, and even just driving around in the city is annoying. But, you do get that reassuring feeling of knowing you are in LA when you hit the WALL OF SMOG.

Around there, I suggest living in Venice Beach when you can afford it and sharing a house with a couple of roommates to make it affordable or getting a small apartment. Life is VERY EXPENSIVE in LA.

But, the sea breeze in Venice Beach helps keep down the smog some.

I agree with pdxsunshine!! I left home at 17 still in high school and got my own place and paid my own bills/rent and a loan for a car. I graduated and moved on.. Take the plunge!! Remember ur mom will not always be there to "help u out." If it doesnt work out then work 2-3 jobs, whatever it takes to do it on ur OWN.

do the commuting thing...
I once got all fired up about a great job sold my house moved to the new state then within six weeks the company was sold and I was out on my bottom...
give it enough time to make sure then if you need too find a room mate and share a place for a while...

Gather your resources and take the plunge. Eat cheap groceries for a few weeks. Be creative about it. Lots of people manage to make it to thier first paycheck on limited resources. You can rationalize staying over and over and be there forever or just go and take your chances.

I agree with your thinking; that way if you find the job is not for you - no problem. Then next I'd locate living quarters in the L.A. area so you can look for work in that general area and not waste time driving back and forth.

I think you really need to stop hitting that crack pipe. I left home when I was 19, and never moved back in. I've made "bad" business/financial decisions and NEVER relied on anyone. GROW UP! That's why I think!

Thank god for moms!! Thats just what I would do besides you need to eat, correct, so work for a couple months and save save & save! good luck to you and in you new Job I hope it works out for you! My advice is not to live in L.a. way to expensive, you really need a apartment out side of the city limits!!

KEEP ON YAHOOING!!
