Prolly its World of Warcraft if fantasy is your style.
Otherwise I'd think City of Heroes/Villians is one of the best.
I like Guildwars alot. But you can't craft adn the game is someways is more online pvp and not mmorpg. It is but it isn't.

By popular opinion it has already been decided to be World of Warcraft with over 6 million subscribers. I played that but my personal face was everquest 1.

I'm going to say the best free and popular as i know as is runescape it rules. You don't download anything just load it and firts make a user name and password. then do the taturiol.
