Walmart always seems to be the "evil" company. I happen to think that it is a great company. I don't think that people realize how much it helps the surrounding communities. I was just wondering what other people thought.

I do work at Wal-mart. I chose to work there. I do work full time and I believe that they have reasonable benefits. I just don't think people see the full picture. Wal-mart became "big" because the customers shopped there. Why else would they have the need to build more. Yet they are probably the ones that are complaining about it. It started out as a small business and made it big just as any other can do as well.

Walmart is always being talked about because the labor unions plant the seed in peoples heads. The unions have fought long and hard to convince workers that they will always be abused and taken advantage of if they do not join the unions. Walmart runs a great company which employs lots of people in areas where there aren't alot of employment opportunities. Their employees appreciate the job and the customers have a good source of inexpensive products.
The thing is that they do it without interference from unions. With Walmart as an example that other companies may follow, the very existence of the retail workers unions is threatened so they have set out to convince America that Walmart is evil, when quite the opposite is true. Look to any protests against Walmart or proposed anti-Walmart legislation and you will find that there is a labor union behind it somehow. The unions hope that you are not smart enough to figure this out.
Contrary to what others answering here want you to believe, the majority of Walmart workers are not on government assistance. The ones that are would rely on it even more without Walmart because they would likely have no job.
If you think everyone if going to start dressing in Walmart fashions that is absurd.
Most importantly, if you asked most Walmart employees if they are glad to be working there, the answer would be yes.

Most of the employees are not able to obtain a full-time position. As a result, they cannot get health insurance, dental insurance, or any other kind of benefits. Therefore, we, taxpayers, are stuck paying their bills. For example, public clinic are taking a load of employees from WalMart because of no insurance.

The other main reason why Walmart is being talked bad about is that other department stores and supermarket are focusing in the same direction as Walmart. Why do you think we had almost a years protest in Southern California when the supermarket is cutting off the employees' health insurance.

Walmart is not helping the government financially with not hiring employees full-time and no benefit whatsoever.part time, so they get no health insurance or other benefits,

Walmart did all this, so YOU can have lower prices and prepare you to pay more taxes.

It is great for the consumer as far as price goes but its selection is minimal at best. The whole country will end up dressing alike and own exactly the same products as Walmart continues to put other retailers out of business. I remember when the first local Home Depot opened up and put most other lumber yards out of business. Now everyone in the area has the same front door and siding on their houses and now that the other retailers are gone their prices have gone throught the roof.

At the start I think Sam was actually trying to provide a
discount store for people but somewhere over the years
they lost that vision and became overly interested in
becoming the biggest store . In so doing they forgot the
the customers and have lost many of their USA suppliers
because of demands for reduced prices and slow payments, often the USA suppliers were forced to cease
operations after increasing production lines because of
lower price offers from wally-world . Indeed , it became
all about the money , greed,greed , greed .........

I know that it has caused alot of our unique shops to close. Cripes they are all wearing Wal-Mart stuff! And they move their workers around in different departments so, none of them know anything. They brought in self check out which was great, but not so if they are not open. The management is the problem in most cases, but I do miss Fashion Bug!

Lets see:

They dont pay worth a hoot. Most of their employees are part time, so they get no health insurance or other benefits, and generally lower the wages other retailers in the area pay. Sounds like a great company to me.

All in the name of giving YOU lower prices.

Actually the major cause for the bad feelings towards Walmart has to do with the benefits packages they have, specifically their health care benefits that cause the majority of their employees to be on public assistance for medical care.
