I've read that the clinically depressed have the most balanced view on life. Could this be true? Maybe happiness is something that's truly unattainable, and is only an delusional state of being.

appreciate everything for what it is.

I was diagnosed with Bone cancer (Parosteal Osteogenic Sarcoma) three years ago. I was a very serious person back then but the cancer was a wake-up call.

I no longer sweated the small stuff and loved life for what it was...good or bad. I have sen a huge difference in my life since then. I am in remission, I love my wife more, and I can't get enough of my kids.

Perspective can sure make a difference. Enjoy life.

Some might say "When life throws you lemons, just make lemon-aid" I can up that one...."When life throws you lemons, grab the Tequila and salt"

The great thing, its different for everyone. It's about tastes and perspectives. But if people expect more, then sometimes happiness will become unattainable. The big surprises do not become big for them. For others, those who live simply are the most at ease. Happiness doesn't have to be permanent or long-lasting. But it can be a lifestyle.

happiness, more or less, something in my liberty (the verve)

hapiness is a state of flux like being sad. Clinical depression is a mental illness really, when you are clinically depressed you can't really get on with life, but just observe it and make glib comments on it.

I find that independemce and knowing that you are making a difference to your life ie improving by your own actions is quite a great thought. But you really do need people to love and laugh with to lean on now and again.

they have the most balanced view as they have weighed up what they have to live for. What is a significant factor? having someone to love, having a purpose in life and wanting to live for that purpose, but on the flippant side its hearing a song you love or being in a place that you love and knowing that the sun is shining. It's about being thankful that we dont have cancer or we dont have bombs raining down on us.
True happiness is attainable, its in our reach, we just deny it sometimes because we're humans and we feel guilty about it - just like we build people up and then tear them down.

Self appreciation...feeling worthy of love...accepting one's self. I would not be surprised if clinically depressed people DO have the most balanced view of life. It seems the happiest people I know only see white or black (and truly love either)...the ones who are miserable see all the gray. Please excuse this answer, I've been listening to Nirvanna all day. ;)

I think you're looking too much into it. It's simple. If you have love and money, you're happy. I have the love, now I just need the money. With 40 million dollars, I don't think it would be possible to be any happier. People who say money doesn't buy happiness are idiots. If their money makes them so miserable, then why don't they give it to me? Hell, I'll take it to make them happy if that's what they really want.
