No, it depends entirely on the email servers where the email is hosted and sent. It could be much faster to sent it around the world then locally if the local email server is lacking. Plus you have to consider all the anti-virus and anti-spam systems inspecting your emails, adding to the delay.

It's like this - when you type an email,..you're using text form of ASCII code,..,bnut actually you are creating some code on a server ( which is actually sending you the page) say yahoo for instance,.., there is no actual email,..and when you send it to an address - which is like a postage address,... the yahoo server searches and desposits this in to this other accout on the server - say hotmail...so when you access your mail say whether it's from uk/us,...all hotmail does is send you the code to the place where you ask it from ..this is how email works...not able to convey the entire thing totally but tryin to give a general idea.

It might take a bit longer, but not much. Just depends on how many servers it's routed through and how busy they are.
I would imagine that countries with good technology are about as quick, but countries who mostly have internet going trough outdated phonelines might be a bit longer.

i think that depending on the provider, it is almost the same speed no matter where u send it. if there is a difference between the distances it is minute.
with hotmail, the email arrives *in the UK from the middle east* within seconds. so its damn fast! =D

It may take to or three times as long, but it takes more time to get it through your SMTP server than to travel. Expect delays of up to 2 or three seconds.
So, the answer is "Not really".
