I would give it back. Most people who deal with a cash register are responsible for shortages. At the end of the day, they may have to pay it or even get fired.

Give it back.

The checker has to count their drawer at the end of their shift, so if they are short, they get in trouble. Do you want to get that poor person in trouble? Some people can justify in their mind that it is the "store's" mistake, and not feel bad about it, but it isn't just the store, it is that individual person. (Not that it being the store makes it right).

What the hell is a checker? How does it give you money? If the CASHIER were to give me too much change I wouldn't even know it. I never look at my change, I just put it into my pocket and leave the store.

It happened to me at the supermarket once. I got confused and thought I was given too little change. I argued with the lad on the checkout and he gave me what I thought I should have had. I got outside and worked it out and he did give me too much. Sad to say.. I kept it. Wouldnt do it now though ;-)

I would give it back. Why should I materially gain from another's mistake? The checker would suffer, and I fight plenty of battles with my conscience already.

You return it if your integrity is not for sale. Mine isn't. Wouldn't the small amount you'ld gain in a grocery transaction be a small price for your self respect? I have to live with myself and so, I want to be fit for myself to know, was the beginning of a poem that has impact in it that could nearly put psychiatrists out of business, were it heeded.

If I noticed I'd give it back, most of the time I just shove the change in my pocket without looking.

I'd keep it if it wasn't too much. If it was like $50 or higher I'd give it back. They may have to pay for it and I wouldn't want them to do that.

Give it back. Sometimes they just make mistakes like everyone else. I would hate to think that someone gets fired just because of my greed. Also, I believe in karma, so it'll come back to me later.

Unless I realized it when I was climbing in the car, I would give it back. It's the right thing to do in my mind; I have a VERY guilty conscience.
