I just bought this 1994 Ford Explorer. When I brake it pulls hard to the left, any ideas of what it possibly is before I take it in to have it looked at?

If pulling hard to the left, then a brake component on the right side is not working properly, causing all of the work to be done by the left. When dealing with the brake system, I would definately want to have it looked at by a professional.

You need to take it in to a reputable mechanic and have them look, it could be a balance or alignment issue but it sounds more like your brakes. Usually if it only pulls when you brake it is one of your brakes either not working (the opposite side of the pull) or one side is braking harder than the other (the same side as the pull). Either way you should get that fixed soon.

Sounds like brake imbalance: your left front brakes are more effective than your right front brakes. You need to take it to a good, reputable mechanic (AAA recommended is even better). Let him (or her) do the diagnostics. If you are mechanically inclined, changing the pads does not pose too many problems. Anything more, you need some mechanical skills...

Have it checked by a brake specialist - you may need new pads, rotors, etc. The sooner the better - you might get away with just pads if you're lucky. The longer you wait, the more damage.

Sounds like you could have a frozen caliper. Have your brakes checked by a reputable mechanic.

Check the tire pressure. If you are pulling hard to the left, check the right front tire especially.
