Most Americans do not know many Arabs. They don't have any Arab neighbors or coworkers. Even some Americans who do have exposure to Arabs may not interact with them.
Since they never have a chance to talk to any Arabs and get to know them, they only know what they see on tv or hear about from others. Unfortunately, most of the media coverage Americans receive about Arabs is negative coverage- they see Arabs fighting, or protesting, or burning US flags. They don't often see Arabs doing the same things everyone else does, like taking care of their kids or going to work every day.
Also, many Americans associate "Arab" with "Islam", or more specifically, "Radical Islamic Extremism." They automatically assume that someone who is Arabic has the same beliefs as the fanatics of Al Qaeda or the Taliban.
Of course, there are many, many Americans who are friendly to Arabs, or at least are indifferent to Arabs.

Well the leading region of people who want to destroy America is the Arab region.
Besides taking money for oil what has the Arab region done in relation to America?
I don't think most Americas hate Arabs per se, but Israel seems to hold American values. Most Arabs don't.
Or at least are not vocal enough to speak out against Islamic terror groups

Because all we see are hateful, ignorant Arabs. We do not have much opportunity to see the good ones. I think the finest example of an Arab in this century would be the former King Hussein of Jordan ... He was a giant of a man, and did not hesitate to do the right thing no matter what his fellow Arabs might say. If more Arab leaders were like him, we and everyone would be a lot better off.

Not an American, but I think its pretty hard to not. If you only get news and opinions from one side and you are thrust into a war where your soldiers are being killed, there isn't much out there to correct their assumptions or provide points of thought from the other side.
The pretty balanced ratio of Liberals and Conservatives in Canada allows us Canadians to form a less biased view thus I presume racism being a lot less of a problem in Canada than the US

We don't hate Arabs. We hate Muslims who keep running around the world attacking people. If the Muslims hadn't attacked America, there would be no war in Afghanistan or Iraq. If the Muslims hadn't attacked Israel, there would be no war in Lebanon.
So why focus on America and Israel? Why not get Muslims to stop kidnapping, beheading, and murdering? If they stopped, the world would be a pretty peaceful place.

No matter how irrational, 9/11 has pretty much made most of americans to have negative stereotypes of ALL Arabs.

because of the murders of 3000 + people in the US, took a trillion $'s out of the economy, and cheered around the world as people jumped from the world trade center. I will never have so much as a bit of pity on all those people in their celebrations.
This country will never bow to mecca, which is the stated goal of the religion of peace. Israel is, at the moment, fighting our war for us and god bless em I hope they kill all they can.
