He hasn't done anything except prove he's a diehard socialist. I know, I live in Illinois and keep a close eye on the commie.
As to why liberals would tout him as President, well liberals don't base anything on actual results. They want him because he's not only a socialist, but he's a black socialist with good communication skills. The Democrats think that, since they have no real platform or beliefs, they can win solely by running a black man for President.
