This is a difficult question to answer because there are a few factors playing for and against Asians in this country. First, our country is starting to become more closed to the outside world. As we struggle to raise borders with other nations, clearly, there will be a greater focus on who enters this country.

However, America greatly relies on a connection to China. Most of our consumer goods originate in China, so there is a clear and necessary connection between the two. Certainly, as Chinese manufacturing continues to the backbone of American consumerism, we will begin to see an influx of more Chinese in this country.

On the flipside, there may be an increase in Taiwanese natives specifically. The United States has been supplying the island nation with weaponry, for many believe that Taiwan will eventually declare its independence from mainland China. This could certainly lead to an open exchange of people between the US and Taiwan; however, since China clearly wishes for Taiwan to remain part of the nation, it could lead to some backlash and thus decrease the amount of Chinese who come to America.

Nevertheless, the number of native born Asian Americans is not expected to rise significantly. Asian Americans do not have the same birthrates in this country as do other ethnicities, so if there is not an increase in birthrates or in immigration (legal or otherwise), there may be a sort of status quo.

As more and more asian ethnic groups arrive in the U.S. and begin seeking each other out, these groups will be more likely to form small communities, like Japantown or Chinatown. This is already happening in certain places in California.
