Tough question with no easy answer.

I guess the easy answer is yes. The Palestinians sure got the bad end of the deal when Israel was created but the Iraq was chopped out of the old hapsburg empire as well. Kuwait was created, the Kurds were deprived of a homeland.

Yes, If you search for Sabbah's Blog you read a completely different story with pictures and articles from credible people. I think modern Israel was created with the best of intentions, just like the United States. It was too bad that people were already living there when these "new" countries were created.

Muslims could chose to live peacefully side-by-side with Jews. Muslims are bound by the Qur'an not to take Jews (or other non-Muslims) as their friends but they could just live peacefully. This, however, will not happen so long as Muslim leaders insist of focusing on the parts of the Qur'an that call for elimination of fitnah.

The Qur'an says [English, transliteration, Arabic]:
(8:39) "So fight them until there is no more fitnah (disbelief or worship of any god but Allah) and all submit to the religion of Allah alone (in the whole world)" ... "And fight with them until there is no more fitnah (persecution) and religion should be only for Allah"

Waqatiloohum hatta la takoona fitnatun wayakoona alddeenu kulluhu lillahi fa-ini intahaw fa-inna Allaha bima yaAAmaloona baseerun

4:76 Those who believe (Muslims) fight in the cause of God, and those who reject Faith (non-Muslims) Fight in the cause of Evil: So fight ye against the friends of Satan: feeble indeed is the cunning of Satan. (Yusuf Ali trans.)

Allatheena amanoo yuqatiloona fee sabeeli Allahi waallatheena kafaroo yuqatiloona fee sabeeli alttaghooti faqatiloo awliyaa alshshaytani inna kayda alshshaytani kana daAAeefan

(4:89) They (unbelievers) but wish that ye should reject Faith (Islam), as they do, and thus be on the same footing (as they): But take not friends from their ranks until they flee in the way of God (From what is forbidden). But if they turn renegades, seize them and slay them wherever ye find them; and (in any case) take no friends or helpers from their ranks; (Yusuf Ali trans.)

They wish that you disbelieve as they have disbelieved, then you become equal. Do not consider them friends, unless they mobilize along with you in the cause of GOD. If they turn against you, you shall fight them, and you may kill them when you encounter them in war. You shall not accept them as friends, or allies. (Khalifa trans.)

Waddoo law takfuroona kama kafaroo fatakoonoona sawaan fala tattakhithoo minhum awliyaa hatta yuhajiroo fee sabeeli Allahi fa-in tawallaw fakhuthoohum waoqtuloohum haythu wajadtumoohum wala tattakhithoo minhum waliyyan wala naseeran

I believe part of the problem stems from western colonialism, and the splitting up of tribal territories into arbitrary political borders. Also the imposing of western style governments upon people who were used to living a much different lifestyle. This dates back to pre-1900's.

Doesn't anyone read history books???? This stuff goes back thousands of years. Just like the tribes in Africa and everywhere else in the world. Don't you remember the Old Testament? The Isralites were held captive in Egypt.

Then the Crusades.
