soak in bleach then use a tooth brush to remove
the loose parts, the bleach will also whiten the jaw for better display

I not real sure; Boil it in water, that what the guy do in the "Jaws" movie. ;-)
May be able to use a little Bleach I not think it would hurt. We have boiled Sea Shells in a water/bleach solution and it work good. 1:5 bleach/water.
DJ has an easy way. Ants work wonders.

Got any ant mounds nearby? We used to leave them on an ant mound, they pick them clean in a day.
