Geocities used to be a webhosting community, where your personal webpage was grouped with others like it in so-called "cities." It was free and easy to use. Then, Yahoo! bought it, and it's nothing like it used to be.

homepages which used to be in little cities and each page used to have its own address like it was a residence inside the fictional city. Each city was based on something different one of say music, and one for science. It was a good concept which they got away from when Yahoo! took over I believe.
