I live in San Diego and I am looking for some great ideas for kid-friendly weekend getaways. I dont want to go too far like northern Cali, but central Cali and deserts are OK. Any ideas or thoughts would be great.

I would suggest train trips. From San Diego you can go to Disneyland in Anaheim, the taxi ride is under$10.00 from the station. I live near the Grover Beach Station, real close to Pismo Beach where you can rent the ATV's & dune buggies and drive on the beach. And I think you can also get pretty close to Universal Studios. Los Angeles, believe it or not can be pretty cool too depending on the ages of your kids: you've got Olvera Street, China Town, La Brea Tar Pits, LOADS of museams including the children's museam which is awesome.
But I would just get on-line with Amtrak and see what is close to their stations, like Santa Barbara. The train alone is such a blast for kids.

You have all the amusement parks in Ca. Leogland; knots berry farm; disneyland; knott`s berry farm; wax museums; univeral studios;six flags mountain; sea world. I could go on and on but don`t forget the beaches.... Your besst bet would be getting a map of all the interesting sights in southern california or look in the local phone book and it will show you all the interests to go to, I think thats in the green pages o the phone book.

You live in freaking San Diego and you don't have a clue where to take the family? Crammus that's really pathetic. How about miniature golf. Yeah, that's it. Party hearty!

Try Balboa Park, Lego Land, Zoo, Seaworld, Aquarium is great. Go to Carlsbad beach, great family area.

My husband and that i continually stay on the perfect Western in Pacifca. it is on street a million about quarter-hour south of San Francisco. The motel take a seat on rock away coastline. it is small and intimate and the fee is about life like. We continually have an fantastically good view of the sea from our room. properly, it truly is my suggestion for what it is properly worth.
