I know the GM poletown plant in Hamtramck Mi. was
one of the first to use robotics heavlily.
I believe that was in the 1980's.

Robotics started in the late 70s, they are mainly used in assembly lines and in paint lines.

1982 in Rochester Hills, Michigan the GMF was created for that purpose

GM signed on for robots that were being created in 1968 by stanford artificial intelligence lab
