That companies,some we are with now, send you a great deal in the mail. So,you call the 1-800 number and go through the bull only to find out you cannot have the offer for some off the wall reason? It does not make sense to me that they would want to piss me off. Does this happen to you and are you more impressed with them openly showing off their stupidity?

Yep...
Do you want to know why they do it? It's really stupid - the marketing dept comes up with this great offer, then they go out and buy mailing lists and mail the thing.
But they never stop to "clean" the list, to remove current customers from it... so you get a mailing they didn't want you to get and you know the story from there.
It gets better:
- they don't understand or refuse to accept that a current customer is far more valuable than a prospect, so you should go to great expense to avoid pissing them off
- they "cheap out" by not paying for the list cleaning that would prevent this problem, since that comes out of the marketing budget, but nobody has a budget for "customers lost and phone calls handled" so nobody fixes the problem
- besides, it's just wrong to offer strangers a better deal than an existing customer can get, and yet everybody does it.
Yeah, it peeves me too, just a little bit.

Yes. I'm sure they do that because so many people have caller ID anymore and the laws against phone calls selling stuff so they make you call them. It's a ploy. It's all they have left "we will con them to CALL US since we can't call them" and it sucks.
