The filter was removed from the unit and was quite dirty, but it still is blowing warm air.

source is my husband the HVAC guy, he does this for a living, and has for 20 years. He said to check your breakers and fuses and if that doesn't work, to call the repairman.
He said that your compressor (spelling?) is not running.

Your condenser (the big part outside the house) has a fan that blows air through the condensing coils, which are covered in little aluminun fins. They are probably clogged with dirt and dust. Wash them out with a high power hose and your cooling should improve dramatically.

You may have to take the metal cover off of the unit - not a big deal, just a few screws.

Check to see if the outside unit is on.

if so, possibly low coolant

if it is not on it may have had a high pressure overload and tripped. This can be caused by the excessively dirty filter. If the filter does not enough air to pass the coil it will not warm up and then the system will send cooler freon back to the outside unit and cause a high pressure situation and thus trip. Look for a button to press back in on the outside unit.

or the circuit break may have tripped.

Good Luck!!

Try the compressor it may have run out of gas if so you may have to get a electrician in to get checked out or the could be that the seals have worn out and leaked the gas out. If that is the case sometimes its cheaper to get a whole new unit

Your unit is probably out of refrigerant. It needs to be recharged by a certified technician
