Ok i ahve to ask the people who have stoped smoking not people who never smoked who think they understand.Real past smokers.I stoped smoking threw hypnoses yesterday,so far i havent wanted to smoke,no i lie i want to smoke and keep thinking of it but i dont and i havent smoked as of yet.AQll day its been stressful,trying to stop smoking then deal with people at work,i want to throw them off a train or into a train what ever works for me.Has anyone tryed anything from the health stores that works for anger and stress,not perscribed meds just herbs.Thank you so very much.I need somthing to calm me down befor i flip

I quit smoking about 30 years ago and when I did, I quit cold turkey without any drugs, patches, hypnosis or anything else like that. I was smoking 3 packs a day when I did quit.

The hospital in my town has a quit smoking plan that they presented. It would tell you each day from the day you quit what you felt like and what was going on and how you were reacting and what to do.

If I could remember it all I would be glad to relate it to you but it was too long ago. All I know is it worked and I haven't smoked a cigarette since then.

Several things I do remember are, stay away from acidic foods, they enhance the craving for a cigarette. Drink plenty of water to flush the nicotine from your system.

The normal craving for a cigarette lasts approximately 2 minutes so when you have a craving, tell yourself that you "chose" not to smoke that cigarette for 10 minutes, and generally during that 10 minutes you will be distracted and find something else to occupy your time and forget about the cigarette.

Smoking is also a habit that is tied to other habits. If you drink a cup of coffee and have a cigarette, then don't have the cup of coffee and you won't have the cigarette. If you eat dinner then sit and watch tv and smoke a cigarette then don't sit and watch tv, do something different. In other words change the routine that makes you smoke.

If you slip and smoke a cigarette, that's okay but next time make sure you get back on track. Never say I "quit" smoking. Quit has a negative impact, you should always say you "choose" not to smoke, that is a positive attitude and works much better.

If you want more information then you need to get in touch with your local hospital or someplace like that and see if they have any classes on helping you to quit smoking. It worked for me and with 3 packs a day, I thought it would be impossible to quit. Back then there weren't any patches and stuff. I didn't have much choice of how I was going to quit.

Good luck, I hope I was of some help. Just hang in there, the first two weeks are the worse, if you can make it through them you will be okay.

First take a few deep breaths.

At times when I have quit smoking I have found that i will blow my day way out of miserable proportion to justify giving in and smoking a cigarette. We all do it. We are so used to relying on cigarettes as a stress crutch - then when we try to quit and our body is not initially happy about that. The smart body produces this stress reaction so that it can have it's beloved nicotine back again.

First and foremost you need to commit to cigarettes not being an option. Vow to handle stress in a new way and do it. Take a walk, watch tv, do a crossword puzzle - whatever you can do that allows you a few minutes to relax and for the craving to stop.

Next, don't resist help - anything thing that you can do or take will help. I took an herb called Lobelia (sometimes known as Turkish Tobacco) in capsule form. It would give my body a bit of "nicotine" and it could relax. I took 1-2 capsule at each craving, then wait 15-30 mins before taking more. I have, on occassion said - what the heck I will smoke anyway. I DON"T RECOMMEND IT, unless you want to feel really really sick.

There are other things you can get at Whole foods or any Health food store. You can get a Boiron Homeopathic remedy or a product called NicoRx (I took that while I was pregnant to stop) - or even nicorette gum - just to get you over the rough patches.

I was off for 3 years (and through the very most stressful time in my life) then started again last halloween. I quit again the last day of May '06 and I am feeling fine and happy I did it. It did take about 6-8 weeks for the cravings to really vanish (and I even bought a pack before that time was up - but I literally was vomiting sick from them).

Kind of a shame - I always loved cigarettes. It's for the best though, better for my girls and my health. And I feel great now!

I smoked a pretty long time. I smoked my first cig at age 8 (yes honestly, eight), when my granny told me that ladies smoke in public... but never drink. I think she was seriously daft and backwards. I smoked off and on for the next fifteen years. I married a man with asthma, and that was the reason I finally quit. It was rough, but love motivated me. I tried to quit by chewing gum and using the patch to no avail. Then I washed my clothes with cigarette butts in the pockets (soldiers don't throw their's on the ground, it can ruin your day). That smell, baked on stale cigarette smoke, will turn your stomach. Try it once, and see what I mean. Now I use exercise to control myself.

You don't want to trade one crutch for another, and taking up pills or herbs would be doing just that. Exercise. Take walks, get some air, and let yourself picture killing them, chew lots of gum, drink water. Take a deep breath and count. Remember this won't last forever. Find a mantra, and repeat it to yourself until you feel better. Something like "Killing myself won't make me feel any better about wanting to kill you... " You will regain your composure after a couple of weeks, and those idiots will seem less irritating. You are doing something great for yourself. Don't let them drive up your stress level and drive you back to the pack. Take a day or two off if you have to. They want you to fail. I wish you all the luck in the world. I know this sucks, but you have to stay strong and work this out.

Yes I quit cold turkey, been 2 months now. When the cravings got too bad I would spray Smoke Away under my tongue it helps. At least it does me. The 1st 3 days are the hardest. Then for me at about the 3 week mark I was craving, but I made it. So can you!

I quit naturally and never needed anything - sorry. Maybe you can take some Chamomile Tea - for calming. Good luck!!

with this remedy, Lobelia, you wont have to TRY to stop, you will stop, because you wont be able to stand the taste of it anymore.
Follow the directions on the bottle.
