Yes it is sometimes used instead of the vicodin or darvon because it has a different chemical composition. It lowers your tolerance again so that the pain pills can work in a lower dose. It is common for doctors to prescribe methadone to chronic pain patients with no intent of removing them from the opiate forever or entirely. It is a highly effective pain killer. When it is written this way it is commonly referred to as "off label use".
It is difficult to adjust to however, allow yourself time, and be prepared to just nod a lot.

damaged bones, maximum cancers, etc. Oxycontin is a very last motel now and they only prescribe it for extremely severe discomfort. They prescribe painkillers like Vicodin for just about each little thing from a torn muscle, to a fall on a skateboard with obtrusive bruising to unexplained discomfort in a guy's testicles.

it does have pain killing effects, but its prescription only. and usually only used as a substiture for heroin addicts trying to quit
