You're old enough. The youngest I encountered was 14. And she not only worked through the Summer but when she went back to school, she already had a guaranteed job for the next year.
I advise starting as a part timer and working up to full time. I used to work there. It is very stressful and the work is hard. Pay sucks too. I was told minimum wage was $11.75 an hr and it was only $4.25. I think it's gone up to $5.00 now.
Even so, McDonalds will help you learn to deal with people on a daily basis and is a good reference if you want to move up to retail.

I don't think age really matters, you can always work your way up to a store manager or more.
