It is always cheaper to buy the thing itself. just imagine what a car would cost, if you bought parts, and put it together..

Depends on the parts, but if you just want a guitar and don't care about names or body style you can get one for as little as $100 at Target or Walmart. Buying an expensive guitar that you will play for years to some is not a waste of money, it is an investment.

The only way i would build one from scratch is if i could get a good body and compatible neck for free. Then i would just need the parts , which by the way - are gonna cost about as much as a used guitar anyway.

Generally speaking you can buy it put together cheaper but you can, by getting the parts, make a better guitar if you pick and chose the parts carefully for a slightly less cost.Especially if you watch for sales and such.

Look up Musicians Friend or visit your local used instrument or pawn shop or even check craigslist.org for some deals. You can probably find an average used guitar cheaper than what it would cost to build one yourself. There are a lot of used guitars out there.

Unless you also own all the tools to mill a bridge, and to shape your own neck from instrument grade wood, then its much cheaper to buy the guitar that you want. Remember its not just the wood, but also the bridge, tuners, saddles, pickups, knobs, pots, caps, etc. The price tag can really add up.
But, building a guitar is a fun hobby that allows you to build something completely custom. Its not a cheap hobby, but it is rewarding.

well i have no idea about this...but in my opinion i would think itd be cheaper to buy the parts and put it together yourself but i would buy the guitar so i make sure i dont mess it up...unless it was a ridiculous amount of money, then i would take the chance of putting it together myself

If you're including the cost of the manual labor you'll spend making it, it's probably cheaper to buy one. It takes a lot of time (seriously, lots of time) to make a guitar. Unless you have lots of time on your hands, it might not be worth it. Plus, it is a really tricky craft.

Well I personaly would just get the guitar put together cause then you would also have to buy the tools to put it together and find some how to books and it gets really complicated.

Buy the guitar whole...
Musical Instruments can't really be put together like Lego, because they have to resonate properly. The pieces that are put together WORK together, and sound properly together.
Putting one together yourself can make the instrument sound hollow, or flat, or tinny...
And the price can't be that much different...
