But in WWII for example, if no-one went to war, we would be speaking German and they would have won and controlled us, and we would maybe still be fighting back with desperate attempts to regain our freedom only to fail constantly and lose hope eventually.
Terrorism, however, may only be stopped by War. They want us to not attack them, so they can regain their force and again shower nations with terrorist attacks. The wars in the Middle East will eventually be won by the more democratically stable countries, but unfortunately it must come at a price for these barve soldiers and innocent civilians. Maybe war tactics need to change but no, war was definitely the right way to go since the terrorism is on a large scale and a large scale battle is needed to counter this.
Simply, no other way would be efficient in dealing with the thousands of terrorists spread across lots of hiding places in a very erratic situation. The local police force in Iraq for exmple, was non existent 3 years ago with Saddam in control, but now, at least there is a large scale stable police force. It may not be 100% efficient or completely corruption free, but it will take time, and then we will pull out. I think war was the right step.
However some aspects of this war, such as the British forces not given enough protection is a disgrace and the (not all) Americans' way at destroying anything they see moving basically absolutely un professional, as well as the killings of innocent Iraq families appauling.

Well Rock i have to agree with you on that one again! I mean tit for tat and retaliation do not work, they only contribute to degenerate a bad situation that could be solved quickly and painlessly if the main antagonists had the guts not to hide behind missiles and/or army and the heart to put their people before their wishes. Sadly they don't! Never have, never will, reason why we've been through two world wars, Ireland, wars of independance with Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia, India! Viet Nam, Cambodia and how many more?
Soldiers/freedom fighters whatever they want to call themselves are quick to forget that their actions can and will onl result in men/women/children being killed, maimed, damaged for the rest of their life, if not physically, emotionally both! And those soldiers/terrorists or whatever name they want to be known as are always someone's son/husband/father etc.
We may be different colours, different beliefs but we all have feelings, we all feel pain and we bleed the same colour! Red!
Who said that all it would take was one war to sort out all wars? I can't remember who said it but he was an army man anyway. I've always disagreed with his idea, mine is that no peace/happiness can come out of wars but resentment, and hatred. We are supposed to be human beings doted with some intellligence so how can we not look back at history, realise the wrongs committed in the name of anything! From religion/politics anything! And not finally accept that what didn't work then never will and that we need to use both our heads and souls to think things carefully, and talk! Talk and talk some more, always keeping in mind the people we call ours, and you know Rock! I'm British, i'm a Catholic and i pray to God that the powers that be can finally see sense, make wars stop now and for good, because this is our planet! It is big enough for us all to live together, peacefully and learn from one another, especially learn to soothe and comfort, not judge, condemn and/or blast to kingdom come!

Terrorism cannot be stopped without the actual destruction of the individuals of the group. We cannot be so ignorant that we think a group like Hezbollah can be reasoned with or controlled with a paper treaty. Until we realize that these people, while human, do not think like us, they do not value life like us, and they seek control through intimidation and killing...until we realize this, they will continue to threaten our way of life. Our world and the powers that be have been blind about the power of these groups.

Yes and no. Yes: it can because we can protect ourselves from as much terrorism as possible. we can take out the insane people who do terrorists acts. maybe not all of them, but we can stop them before they happen. this stuff is getting way out of control, and if we don't do something, we are all going to be dead. no: we cannot take out all the terrorists,so there will be potential attacks, but we can try our hardest to stop them before they begin. lets look at it this way, if we don't do anything, then all the terrorist countries will attempt to take out America, they already have said that that is their plan. that doesn't scare you??? it does me...so thank goodness we are the most powerful country and that we have the means to protect our country and our civilians. I'm just happy that i was born in the U.S.A and not a country that will kill their people for no reason...just for fun.

Nobody likes war, but , let's face it...there are some pretty bad dudes out there who are ideologically, fanatically determined to annihilate any country which doesn't worship their God. So...what do we do? Just sit back and let them do it? Or maybe we should all worship their god in exactly the way they dictate. No, the sad but inevitable course of action is to use force to protect out right to live and worship as we choose, and I for one, will not worship their god. My God requires that I serve only Him, and in the way He has prescribed in the Bible. And the right to do just that is worth fighting, and, yes, even dying for.

Don't people have the right to fight back?
You drop bombs on innocent thousands and terrorists blow themselves up in front of innocent thousands.
Both parties are at fault and both these monsters should stop for the love of humanity and mankind.

Violence only calls violence. When everything else failed then fighting should be considered but otherwise, it only bring chaos and death. And as you say, history has shown us it was definitely not the answer but will men lern one day ?
I doubt it myself.

How else are you supposed to fight it? You cannot allow terrorists to run rampant. This is not a case of violence vs. violence, but rather good vs. evil... and good will always prevail.

I respect the men and women in uniform, but I honestly do not think war solves anything it will just make the enemies angrier, and it kills innocent people.

I don't think so either, all you do is fuel the hatred. I think the better route is by extending a hand and trying to understand both sides. Education is key.
