is it an electric piano, or a keyboard? Most keyboards have midi, unless it's a cheap Casio keyboard. Next time you're at his place look and see if you can find out the brand and model number, and look it up on musiciansfriend.com and read the product description to see if it has Midi.

This is the one I have, actually it's a newer version with more options. It's a really awesome program, and the music looks really professional when it's done. It's really simple to use, and it plays back everything for you. It's midi capable, and if he has an electric piano I'm sure it has midi, because most electric pianos do have midi. If not this software has a way cool mike feature for instruments that don't have midi, you hook the mike up to the comp, and play, and it'll write what you are playing. It also has a few other methods of writing that involve putting the notes in one by one. In addition, it lets you scan in music, so he can scan any music he's already written into the program. If he likes writing music then definitely get him a music creator. I just dabbled in composition before buying this program, and now I use it all the time.

Yes, most electric pianos have midi. If its a nice one, it will have it. Most peices of crap have it.

If you find out what kind, it isn't hard to look up if it is midi capable on a instrument website. (sam ash, sweetwater, musician's friend, etc)
