Contrary to what Cute Girl thinks, other countries do have states just like the United States does. Mexico has 33 or 34 states (can't remember the exact number). However, to answer your question would require clarification...what do you consider a "state?" Canada has 10 provinces, which is analogous to states. Likewise, Canada has three additional regions referred to as territories, which are more similar in status to the US territories of Guam, Micronesia, Puerto Rico, etc. Other countries may have other labels for the smaller divisions of land within their borders.

Bottom line, your question is a difficult one to answer precisely.
