I already give him a gallon milk container filled with ice everyday. I give him new water and a shady place for him to rest, but he still gets very hot. Is there anything else I can do? He's about six (maybe 4 or 5) years old. And we live in a town where it's like, 95-100 degrees in the middle of the day. We cannot put him inside and the garage is as hot as outside. We moved him to the back porch and had fans aimed on him, but he got poop everywhere. What can I do to keep him cooler?

a new product i found farting around online is a cooling mat. its gel filled and it cools upon contact. for a 100.00 bucks ya can buy a large rabbit cage that has high plastic sides . i have 4 rabbits , one is inside recovering from pasterilla , inside a cage. in the cage is an igloo shaped house and a litter box. its taken a week for him to figure out to void in the litter box. clean the cage daily so there is no stink and use alpha pet aspen bedding and critter care superior odor control bedding . one for the cage bottom and one for the litter box. it appears to be made of shredded cardboard. all three products can be bought at walmart. dont forget the guy needs timothy hay for his digestive system...poo is alot firmer when fed timothy hay!

I had the same problem. Put ur rabbit under a big piece of shade, a fan right beside and make a little shed or a dog house and the rabbit would go in and cool of, u can also water the floor so it can be nice and wet and cold and refreshing. I hope this helps :) good luck

Try a mist system around the cage. It will keep the inside cooler, and runs off of your hose. I use this for my dogs and they love it. They spend their entire days outside now and don't even care about coming in the house. We live in Arizona too.

It gets very hot here in Australia too - bunns have big problems in temperatures over 28 degrees Celcius, which calculates as 82°Farenheit, and need to be kept cool, otherwise they can die from heat stroke - I've written an article on symptoms of heat stroke and how to treat -
http://au.geocities.com/leaswebsite/bunnyheatstroke.html
In addition to the frozen bottle of water, which you also mention, we know some people who use a big piece of tiling, too - they put it in their fridge to make it cool, and then put it where their bunns can lay against it.
Another really good idea, which I've heard about from bunny-friends but haven't tried myself yet, is to drench a towel with cool water, then ring it out so it's just this side of not-dripping wet, and drape it over your bunn's hutch/cage - apparently this creates a moist, cool microclimate for him.
Another tip that I mention on my web page - on the really hot days, if you can spend the day with him, keep him constantly moist by wetting your hands with cool water and rubbing this into his fur and skin - as with all of us, if you keep his skin moist, the evaporation of this water on his skin will cool him.
Very, very best of luck - we know, here in Australia, how difficult the heat is for you and your bunn.
