I have a 1969 VW type 2 bus and if I leave it off for more than two days, the battery is completely dead. No electronics that I know of are on in the car. How do I prevent the battery from going dead in the future? I don't want to have to disconnect the battery everytime I park the car. I just want the problem fixed. Thank you.

The same thing happened to me with our school bus. Came to find out the wires on the starter had been put on wrong and one of them was shorting out the battery. Check that and the connections to the alternator/generator. It's a good place to start the search and a very likely reason for the short. And that's what's happening. You have a short somewhere.

You most likely have a short, or something not so obvious is being left on. The most common problem I have encountered in the past was the glove box being closed and the light remaining on. I once had a VW bus with the same problem, it was a wire from the coil going to a tachometer that was occasionally shorting against the body behind an upholstery panel.
