No its not fair but it is also not our fault. There is easily enough food in the world for everyone to have enough to eat but politics and economics cause problems. American produces more food than it needs and this is basically related to the fact we have had a stable government that from early on has dedicated money and resources to the production of food. We are lucky we have had no major wars on the North American land mass in the last 100 years to disrupt food production. As we produce so much food it actually drives down the price of food and allows people to spend money on other things which further stimulates the economy. These are the basic reasons for our economic success. We are very lucky in geographically and politically, for this we don't have to apologize to anyone, but we should be compassionate towards people who have less. There is only so much we can do in many situations, we cannot force other governments to be fair to their own people. We cannot force what we think is the right system on other people either. We do not have to feel guilty either of the success we have had. Our society is the result of over 200 years of trial and error, hard work and luck. While its not fair that not everyone can share in it, its also not fair that we should have to feel guilty about it either.

No, it isn't fair, but nothing's really fair anyways. Besides:
1) I paid for the food, so I have the right to eat it
2) it's not my fault people are dying
3) American's can't be expected to starve so complete strangers can eat
4) We have to spend a lot of money on other important things
5) not all Americans overeat- some can barely even afford to feed their own families

Since when is anything fair, anyway? The american populace has what their country provides them. Even without the benefit of the importation of goods, America is vast enough to produce enough food to feed its' occupants. Nations, like people, have to play with the hand that they were dwelt.

I assume you're talking about african and third world countries starving to death. I don't know if you want me to cry over this,... because there's not a chance in hell that I'm going to. If they're hungry, they have options. If they could do something valuable, create something even as simple as a necklace, they could trade with other nations for food and resources. If their leaders were intellegent at all, they would make arrangements. There are so many possibilities for them, and yet they're doing nothing. As far as I'm concerned, if they're not contributing to the future of the human race, we don't really need them anyway.

The problem is your focusing on the things in life that don't really matter. When I was a kid I had hopes and dreams. We all did. But over time, the daily grind gets in the way and you miss the things that really matter, even though they are right in front of you, staring you in the face. I think the next time you should ask yourself "Am I on the right track here?". I don't mean to be rude but people like you I really pity. So maybe you could use the few brain cells you have and take advantage of the knowledge I have given you now. Good luck.

First, not all Americans over eat. Also, you have to ask why it is that Americans have enough food to eat and even sometimes enough to overeat? Could it be because of our work ethic and because we are not ruled by a king or some other evil government. We actually get to have a say in what is happening in our country? Of course I feel sorry for people in 3rd world countries who are starving and I will donate money to organizations that help them. However, it would be fruitless for me to starve myself so that I could send even more money. I need to be healthy so that I can work in order to have money to help others. Also, since I am a teacher, I am helping others here. If I don't eat, it is harder for me to do my job well.
The fact that people are starving in many countries is the fault of the corrupt governments in those countries that do not care about their poor and who take the food that we send instead of seeing that it is distributed to those who need it, not the fault of compassionate Americans who want to help.

I take it if you have the Internet, that you aren't starving, so what the hell are you complaining about? No, it's not fair that some people are wasteful and are not sympathetic towards people living in poverty, but why would you generalize your question by aiming it towards America? I'm sure people living in Italy waste food. I'm sure Germans waste food. I'm sure people living in China waste food...I could go on forever!

And another thing: who is the country providing food for tons of starving children and refugees when terrible things like tsunamis, hurricanes, and earthquakes occur? AMERICA, THAT'S WHO!!!! So don't tell me we're a selfish country, because, ya know what? We're not.

It might not be fair, but there isn't any way we can fix it. They are having more babies than they can feed. They are responsible for their own suffering, not us. If we could feed them all, what would be the result? More of them would survive to have even more babies and eventually there would be no way to feed them all. The ONLY solution in a world with 6+billion people, who have even depleted the fish in the ocean, is to reproduce less and stop glorifying mothers who have a dozen children.

I could throw you the bones. I guess that we can't save all the starving people of the world. I'm not going to give up eating just because others can't eat. I'd send them some money, but due to no health insurance,I got none to spare them. We may eat good in this country, but we pay dearly for many other things.

Life isn't fair. And don't be too critical of America. We already feed, protect, rescue, and supply medicine to most of the world.

If a hurricane, earthquake, or tsunami strikes a country, who do you think they'd rather have for a friend - America or North Korea (or Iran, or France, whoever)?

No, not fair. However, this is not a question of fairness. This is a question of what well-off Americans are willing to do about global poverty/starvation.
