All these suggestions will work. But the key thing no one mentioned is that POP access is not allowed for everyone for free. You have to upgrade your email account for a fee (mine was $20 for 1 year). After that then you can follow all these suggestions since most of them are right. REMEMBER IT WILL NOT WORK WITHOUT UPGRADING YOUR ACCOUNT. Since this is the first truly right answer vote for best answer. If am wrong in any way then use your discretion. Check the page below and see for yourself.

- If you have Yahoo! Mail Plus or Rogers Yahoo! Mail, you can configure your mail client directly:

Microsoft Outlook 2002 XP & 2003:
http://help.yahoo.com/help/us/plus/mail/pop/pop-28.html

Microsoft Outlook 98 and 2000:
http://help.yahoo.com/help/us/plus/mail/pop/pop-05.html

Note: This will NOT work for FREE Yahoo! Mail.

- If you only have FREE service, you can also use Yahoo! Mail through Outlook or Thunderbird using this software:

YPOPs!
http://www.ypopsemail.com/

YPOPs! acts as a gateway and automatically downloads your mail to mail clients like Microsoft Outlook and Mozilla Thunderbird. It provides virtual POP3 and SMTP access through HTTP. It does NOT go against the license agreements of Yahoo! Mail, so it's completely legitimate.

You can get the documentation here:

You need to be signed up for Yahoo! Plus in order to enable POP3 for Yahoo Mail.

If you have, the settings you can put into Outlook are in the Options or Mail Settings in Yahoo! Mail, and you can just follow them.

You can't. I don't know why you'd bother anyway. Yahoo is far more safe for your computer than MS Outlook. You're only asking for viruses if you use that program. If you really like the interface though, I'd suggest you getting Mozilla Thunderbird.

you need to configure the email settings in your outlook. here's how: From the Tools menu, select Services (or Accounts for certain operating systems). Click the Add button. From the Add menu, click Internet e-mail. In the Mail Account box enter the name you want to call this account. In the Name box, type your name as you would like it to appear when you send a message. In the Organization box enter the name of your company, if you want to do so. In the Email Address box, enter your email address. In the Reply address, enter the email address you want people to use when replying to your email messages if it is different than your email address. Click on the Server tab above. Enter your POP3 server address in the Incoming Mail (POP3) box. Enter your SMTP server address in the Outgoing Mail (SMTP) box. In the Account Name box, enter your Member ID. In the Password box, enter your Member ID password. Check Remember Password if you do not want Outlook to prompt you for your password each time you check your mail. Do not check the Log on using Secure Password Authentication (SPA) box. Check the My server requires authentication box. Click on the Settings button. Make sure the Use same as my incoming mail server box is checked. Click on OK. Click on the Connection tab above. Choose the appropriate connection type under the Which Method Do You Use to Connect to the Internet heading. If you are on a Dialup connection, choose Connect using my phone line and select a Dial-up connection in the Dial-up Connection Wizard. If you are on an HSI connection, choose Connect using my local area network (LAN). Click Apply. Click OK.

Why do that? Microsoft Outlook is prone to bugs, viruses and worms. Yahoo! Beta email works great and you can import your address book to it.

Outlook Express allows you to add a new email account to your existing profile. This means you do not have to replace your current settings in order to send and receive Yahoo! Mail messages. Here's how:

From the Tools menu, choose "Accounts."
Select the "Mail" tab.
Click the "Add" button.
From the Add menu, click "Mail."
In the text box labeled Display Name, type your name and click "Next."
In the Email Address box, type your Yahoo! Mail address (be sure to include "@yahoo.com") and click "Next."
Under "My incoming mail server is a..." select "POP3."
Type "pop.mail.yahoo.com" in the Incoming Mail (POP3, IMAP, or HTTP) Server box.
Type "smtp.mail.yahoo.com" in the Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server box.
Click "Next."
In the Account Name box, type your Yahoo! Mail ID (your email address without the "@yahoo.com").
In the Password box, type your Yahoo! Mail password.
If you want Outlook Express to remember your password, check the "Remember password" box.
Do not check the boxes labeled "Log on using Secure..."
Click "Next."
Click "Finish."
Important: The Yahoo! Mail SMTP server now requires authentication. To turn this setting on:

From the Tools menu, choose "Accounts."
Select the "Mail" tab.
Double-click the account labeled "pop.mail.yahoo.com."
Select the "Servers" tab.
Check the box next to "My Server Requires Authentication."
Click "OK."
To control deletion of messages from the Yahoo! Mail Server:

From the Tools menu, choose "Accounts."
Select the "Mail" tab.
Double-click the account labeled "pop.mail.yahoo.com."
Select the "Advanced" tab.
In the Delivery section at the bottom of the window, check "Leave a copy of messages on server" if you want to save your Yahoo! Mail messages on the Yahoo! Mail server as well as on your local computer. Do not check this box if you want your messages to be deleted from the Yahoo! Mail server once you have received them in Outlook Express.
If your ISP blocks port 25 or if you're unable to send email, then you will need to use port 587 when sending via Yahoo!'s SMTP server. To make this change, please follow the directions below:

From the "Tools" menu, select "Accounts"
Select your Yahoo! POP account and click on the "Properties" button
Click on the "Advanced" tab
Next to "Outgoing server (SMTP), change port 25 to 587
Click "Apply", then click "OK" and "Close"

Yahoo! Mail users can read their email in Outlook by subscribing to the Yahoo! Mail Plus service. This service allows you to use Outlook or another POP3 client to access and manage your Yahoo! Mail messages.

If you are a Mail Plus user, then follow the directions outlined below:
To configure your POP settings for Microsoft Outlook 2002 (sometimes referred to as Outlook XP) and 2003, follow these steps:

From the Tools menu, select "Email Accounts." You may have to click the arrows.
Select the radio button next to "Add a new email account" and click the "Next" button.
Select the radio button next to "POP3" and click the "Next" button.
Enter the following information:
User Information

Your Name: Enter your name as you would like it to appear in the "From" field of your outgoing messages.
Email Address: Enter your full Yahoo! Mail address (for example, "user@yahoo.com").
Server Information

Incoming mail server (POP3):

pop.mail.yahoo.com

Outgoing mail server (SMTP):

smtp.mail.yahoo.com

Login Information
User Name: Enter your Yahoo! ID (your email address without the "@yahoo.com").
Password: Enter your Yahoo! password.

Do not check the box next to "Log on using Secure Password Authentication (SPA)."
Click the "More Settings" box and select the "Outgoing Server" tab.
Check the box next to "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication."
If you would like to keep a copy of your email messages on the Yahoo! Mail server, select the "Advanced" tab. Check the box next to "Leave a copy of messages on the server."
Click the "OK" button.
Click the "Next" button on the Email Account Wizard, then click "Finished."
Important: The Yahoo! Mail SMTP server requires authentication. To turn this setting on, follow these steps:

Click "Tools," then select "Email Accounts."
Select "View or change existing email accounts" and click "Next."
Select your Yahoo! Mail account and click the "Change" button on the right.
Click the "More Settings..." button in the bottom-right corner of the Email Accounts window.
In the Internet Email Settings window, click the "Outgoing Server" tab. Ensure that the box is checked next to "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication."
Click the "Advanced" tab and ensure that you have not selected "This server requires a secure connection (SSL)" under the incoming (POP3) or outgoing (SMTP) port settings.
To control deletion of messages from the Yahoo! Mail Server, follow these steps:

From the Tools menu, choose "Email Accounts."
Select the radio button next to "Edit an existing account" and click the "Next" button.
Double-click the Yahoo! account.
Select the "Advanced" tab.
In the Delivery section at the bottom of the window, check "Leave a copy of messages on server" if you want to save your Yahoo! Mail messages on both the Yahoo! Mail server and on your local computer. If you want your messages to be deleted from the Yahoo! Mail server after you have received them in Outlook, do not check this box.
If your ISP blocks port 25 or if you're unable to send email, then you will need to use port 587 when sending via Yahoo!'s SMTP server. To make this change, please follow the directions below:

From the "Tools" menu, select "E-mail Accounts"

Next, click on "More Settings"
Click on the "Advanced" tab
