Why do people look both ways before crossing a one way street?

Force of habit! We were taught that as small children, and it's hard to 'remember' not to do something we've since put on 'automatic pilot'. Come to think of it, I HAVE seen instances of people driving the wrong direction on a one way street, so perhaps looking both ways before crossing isn't so stupid, after all...

I think we've being trained to look both ways, no matter if the street is just one way.

Instinct and awareness of complete morons ( I saw an old couple yesterday turn the wrong way onto a 1 way that was 3 lanes wide ). I am guilty of this and not ashamed of it. I also live in a large city,

we don't feel secured although we know we are crossing a one-way street. we have crossed too many two-way streets that we've grown to look both ways...

Good parenting. It becomes instinctual. I always feel goofy for doing it when I realize it's a one-way street, but I'd rather be safe than sorry. Thank goodness for paranoid parents.

I do this, I guess it is just habit. I will also do this when I turn on a one way or cross one. I don't know why♥

hahaha i laugh when i see people do that and call them stupid... but ive done it too

some cars drive the wrong way down a one way street though. never know.
