I think that if the sitter sits one-three children under the age of 12, $10 for one hour & $5 added to every hour after that would be a reasonable charge. If there are more children, add $5-$10 bucks on the overall charge. It's nice to remember that as a sitter you should do your best to earn that money by keeping the house in order & the kid(s) happy. Also, if youre babysitting because of an emergency it'd be better if you didn't charge at all.
If the babysitting job is one of those one-time things rather than a reg. daily or weekly sitting job, dont charge & just take whatever $ youre given.

The going rate is about $5-7 dollars an hour depending on what your needs are. If you need someone for the whole day, five days a week then you can expect to spend about $200-300. If for the evenings and weekends then about $40-50 bucks.

I say for a teenager, minimum wage for your area-after taxes unless there are lots of kids or really hard to manage kids. I usually pay my Mom $5 an hour for my 3 kids, but no diapers are involved and I keep the hardest to manage child home.
She was wanting to make a little extra money for a vacation and asked-NOT for full time care.
