Just to annoy the snot out of you. But seriously they are just as much of a part of the ecosystem as any other animal. There are some plant species that can only be pollinated by flies because they are too small for other insects to do. Also flies are a staple food amongst creatures such as bats and frogs. Not to mention those cute little Venus Flytraps that you see around once in a while.

Flies, though nasty and gross and annoying, actually do serve a purpose. Their larvae feed on decomposing and rotting things and eventually get rid of them. Without flies and bugs we would be enveloped in a stench of rotting decomposing things. So, KILL the little buggars in your home but try to appreciate what they save you from. I also read somewhere that every time a fly lands they either puke or poop. Dont leave out your cookies you feed to your kids. Yukky nasy beasts.

Flies are the key to decomposition. Here's an interesting fact about flies that will have you never think the same of them again. They eat through their feet and poop through their tongue and when they land on something what they were on last is the first thing they poop out. The next time one lands on your food it's an interesting thought. Thanks for the points

I agree with you about how disgusting flies are!
I don't care what good they do, they are still horrid nasty pests.
When I was in Australia there were so many flies I couldn't believe it...and they are persistant. In fact, the motion of the hand swatting flies away from your face is known there as "the Australian salute."

They lay their eggs on dead carcass to produce maggots thus consuming much of dead animal that you see that's laying around.Without them could you imagine so many dead animals and body's laying around every where.
