I recently really pushed for a rise at work and got it, I thought that it would make me happy, it did for about a day.
I am 23, I have a B/Sc and an M/Sc, a reasonable job, some good friends, I'm not ugly honest, but am far from happy.
I suppose that the upshot is that I don't have a partner, I am not the sort of person who can just go up to a person and ask them out, not that I don't talk to women, one of my best friends of a woman.
Alright this isn't a question, it's more of a comment.
Any thoughts on the "happiness factor" and how to improve your happiness?

You are right money doesn't bring happiness. With great wealth often comes great unhappiness. Money only pays the bills from my point of view. I have a comfortable salary, but I find happiness in using money to assist others less fortunate, ie. school supplies, and uniforms for school children, food for people in my community. In other words, I find joy in giving to others, whether it is my money, time, or of myself. I give from my heart, not for the "show". There is nothing more beautiful than the smile of a child. In finding happiness, be it a spiritual journey, doing what you love, or simply being contented with what you have, remember you will not be remembered for the beginning or the end of your life, but for the space in between. Love like it will never hurt, dance like no one is watching, and work like you don't need the money. Peace

Maybe you're gay? I don't mean this in an insulting manner. I've gay friends, and most have a girl as their best friend. Perhaps what is keeping you from true happiness is that you are hiding a part of yourself and you need to express it. Maybe then you'll be happy. Of course you could also be someone who just cannot be happy. Or you could suffer from low self-esteem. I don't know you so I cannot say for sure. I can suggest you explore yourself. Happiness must come from within. When you are happy with yourself, the outside things cannot make or break your true happiness.

I really think that happiness is not always getting what you expected.

I am one of the very lucky people who are happy with their lot in life.
I love my hubby, he makes me laugh also breakfast in bed.
I have two wonderful children who amaze me everyday.
I have a seventyone year old mother who is so fit and healthy she is my maid! not really but she will pop in and pick up and wash up for me while I am in work. I have a cat who finds all the sad cats in our neighbourhood and brings me home lots of new friends.
I own my home and my car. I have enough food in the freezer to feed half of the village.
And still every day little things make me happy. A bird landing on the fence in front of me.
A new cat to greet me in the morning.
