ok i have no idea what these people are talking about but MY OBGYN said DOUCHING is the worst thing you can do to your body. for ex, my mother. she had to have her uterus taken out because it was in between her legs-yes falling out- due to her douching 2 times a week. DO NOT DOUCHE. soo bad for you. dont put soap up there either. just gently clense the outside with summers eve and such and you wont have a problem.

Don't put any soap into your vagina. Vaginas are self-cleaning, and putting soap, or any kind of douche, up there could (and often does) upset the balance of yeast and bacteria in your vagina, causing infections like yeast infections or bacterial vaginosis. Just clean around the outside and you'll be fine.
If your vagina smells, especially if it's "fishy" or has a weird discharge, you might have a bacterial infection already, and you should see your doctor for diagnosis and treatment. Putting soap in there will only make it worse!

Regular soap can be irritating and can disrupt the "natural" conditions inside the vagina. I'm a CNA and so have to help clean other people. The best is use a mild soap on the outside and just inside the skin parts and rinse well. if you're worried about smell or cleanliness inside, get some cleansing douche. you can buy it at wal-mart by the other feminine products.

I only use regular soap, unless I have no choice, because there is nothing else available. If I use soap, I use it on the outside only--never to clean the inside.
Unfortunately, my mother never taught me how to clean myself, or how to take care of my periods, or anything feminine. I had to figure everything out by trial and error.
I use Feminine Wash, by Summer's Eve. It is a liquid soap, that does not irritate your vagina, and it instantly gets rid of any odor.
I only use Feminine Wash on the outside. You don't have to wash the inside, unless it is right after your period stops.
Gynecologists are against cleaning the inside frequently, because it washes out the helpful bacteria that is supposed to be in there to protect your body. This bacteria "attacks" anything foreign that is not supposed to be in there.
I wouldn't pay any attention to the in-laws, it's none of their business how you clean yourself anyway.

You should NEVER stick soap up there, it could cause a nasty infection. If you smell down there then go get some summers eve wash, and if that doesnt work than see a dr cause a healthy vagina does not have a Smell to it...

You do not have to stick your fingers in your vagina to get clean. Just wash the outside area with soap and water and rinse well.

do not, do not, do not put any kind of soap, cleaner, or douche inside your vagina. this will disrupt the delicate chemical and bacteria balance inside. women have a natural smell but if you feel your scent is especially strong or if the odor is yucky go to doctor and get checked out.
if the odor is light (when you go potty you can barely smell it on your panties) and you're still concerned, there are powders, deodorants and scented pantyliners that you can use... the powders and deodorants are never used inside the vagina either.

You are doing fine just washing the outside. Your vigina is "self-cleaning" and you don't need to do anything extra unless a doctor tells you to. Unless the smell is unusual (foul) or there is an unusual discharge, don't worry.

You should never use anything to clean internally. The body takes care of itself and has natural good bacteria to protect it. If there is an odor then there is an infection and you would need to see a doctor. I think they are pulling your leg because they think you are gullible,
