Depending on what state you live in, you should try your state's department of education website. Job listings shoud be available by grade, location and subject area.

If your a teacher and can't find work i would strongly recommend looking into teaching English in China. I taught in China for two years through an organization known as JourneyEast. I worked 18 hours a week, made 7000 RMB a month all while living for free in a fully westernized apartment. From the second i landed a JourneyEast representative was there waiting for me. He picked me up, showed me around town and brought me to my apartment. JourneyEast also supplied me with a free tutor for the first three months which helped me get situated and learn the language.

Working only 18 hours gave me a ton of time to travel which i really enjoyed and my students were great. Teaching them was fun and easy. They really have a passion to learn over there which is nothing like students in the United States.

If your a teacher who cant find work I would strongly recommend looking into teaching in China. I would also strongly recommend going through JourneyEast.org. They really make the process easy and enjoyable.

The hiring freeze in California applies to everyone, certified or not, but if you teach a high demand subject you could find something. There is a good website for charter schools in California, though. I'm sorry I can't remember the exact name, but if you google something like "teaching jobs in California charter schools" it should pop up. It's a LOOOONG application to fill in, but there are jobs like the ones you want. You'll have to be flexible about where in California you want to live, though. Good luck!

Independent (private) schools http://www.nais.org National Association of Independent Schools.
For public school teaching you need to go to each state's Dept. of Education webpage.
