There are various factors to consider why your wireless speed is slow.

1) There is interference, like a mobile or TV.
2) There are walls in between
3) The router only supports 802.11b (5.5mb/s)
4)The laptop is configured at 802.11b, not 802.11b/g

There was not much info, so use the factors that I have mentioned to combat the problem. Try moving closer or go into the router settings and checking speeds.

Good Luck

Not much info here. Try moving closer to the router and see if the signal and speed pick up. Many things in a house can affect reception and transmission.

See if the software has a place where you can check your signal strength. Then move the computer around to see where you get the best reception.

is your connection secured?

make sure your neighbors are not sucking up your wireless signal for free. my signal went weak and i secured my router then the speed got better cause of less users on the interface.
