When I was adding my tip onto my dinner receipt (last night), I wrote how much i wanted to tip, but I added incorrectly, adding $3 more to the total (ex: 12.00 + 2.50 = 17.50) It's not a big deal, but I'm wondering what they are going to charge me. This morning, I checked my bank statement online, and the restaurant's only charged me for my meal so far, with no tip. Will the restaurant charge my tip later or have they already totaled my bill last night and just didn't charge me tip since my total was incorrect?

To the person who said I only tipped 11%, please recheck your math on this one, I actually tipped about 20%. =)

And I probably won't dispute it if they did charge me extra, the waiter should just be happy with a 45% tip. It was only $3 more, I'm just curious, since they haven't charged me tip yet.

When you use your card at a restaurant, they charge you for your meal and then go back and calculate your tip. I would wait a couple of days to see what is posted to your account. You ‘should’ only be charged the amount that you specified, which is your initial charge and your tip. They will see that you miscalculated. Because you did not authorize a larger amount tip, I would think that you could dispute it.

I believe at the end of the night when the restaurants post their receipts; the total balance of the meal plus tips are added to what data is given to the bank. Otherwise everyone's bank statement would show two different entries; one for the tip and the other for the meal/drinks.

Call the restaurant and have them add your 11% tip to you credit card. But isn't 15% standard for standard service? (It's easy to feel like a big shot and add 20% to a $12 check, but a little harder if the check is $600 ~ $90 tip vs. $120, eh?)

they might either not add a tip or add the tip that you requested to be deducted. if it is a good bank, it will add just the tip that u requested to be deducted like my bank
