Sound like your hard drive has failed and may need to be replaced. The other alternative would be to have an A+ Certified technician take a look at the laptop. If it is not the hard drive itself failing then you may have another hardware failure. One thing you can try to eliminate the laptop as issue. If you have another computer with a cd burner download a bootable OS, there are several free Linux versions. Boot your laptop using the cd and see if you can see files present on the laptop hard drive.

Two ideas come to mind make sure the drivers are installed correctly and the interrupts are not conflicting and set up right
check the hard drive connections (the data cable especially)
make sure the controller driver is installed and working properly
This problem can be caused by the Bios not being set up correctly for the specific hard drive also.
Add any new hardware? remove it see if you have the problem still
other than that replace the hard drive.Though it could be a bad controller too.

Sounds like your hard drive is probably dead. To retrieve data from the corrupted hard drive, you'll need an external usb laptop hard drive enclosure which is pretty easy to find at any computer parts store (around $20). Connect your corrupted hard drive in the enclosure and using the provided usb cable, connect the enclosure to another working computer. If the hard drive is completely, officially, undeniably dead, the hard drive might not be detected on the computer, but, if it still has some life in it, it should be detected, however, even if the computer does detect the hard drive, you won't be able to access your files (assuming your laptop was using windows XP) because for obvious security reasons, XP doesn't allow for the simple connection of hard drives to other computers for the sole purpose of accessing the contents...it's a security thing. What you'll need is to find yourself a copy of Ontrack Easy Recovery CD, (Limewire should have it). With that you'll be able to access your locked files/folders C:/documents & settings/(your user name). Install the software on the working computer and, once launched, you'll have many simple options to choose from, any of which should recover your files....it's pretty self explanatory assuming your hard drive still has a hart beat of course. =) Good luck

Hi there. Several month ago i had the same problem. The right answer was broght to me by the producers manufactory. The problem was one of the contacts between the harddrivedisk and the laptop as itself was broken (i think due to the temperatures and the "long term" (2 years) of using the laptop.

Rebooting in secure mode may help. Reboot your pc, and through the bios show screen (the show screen that first pops up once you press the skill button) there must be an F# key you ought to press to get admission to the boot menu (F10 operating example). Use the arrow keys till you discover "run XP in secure mode," or some thing similar. it may boot up, and from there you should have the capacity to delete the viruses or installation a tremendous anti virus utility. optimistically this can artwork. to maintain away from this interior the destiny , installation AVG free anti virus utility and do commonplace scans. also, do periodical backups of your equipment. If all else fails, take it to the close by pc nerd and they could nicely have the capacity to help. good success...

What you can do is remove your hard drive from your computer and fix it to any of your friend's computer and check whether it is detected by the computer or not....If not, then you gotta contact your technician to recover the data on it which involves absolutely no guarantee......If it is detected and the data on it is readable, then you better save all the stuff on your hard drive on your friend's space and then get it back sometime later when you have repaired or replaced your Hard drive.

may have had the circuit board of the hard drive fry - even if it didn't you will probably need to get a new one. buy a usb enclosure for a laptop hard drive and put it in there to see if when hooked up to a computer it will be detectable.

In answer to your question about getting data off the hard drive:
If the PC can not see that there hard drive is there, then you can not get anything off it.
You can try taking it to another PC and plugging it in as a second drive and if the PC sees it, you can get the data, If not... sorry!

Hmmm, Since you said you took out the hard drive and reinstalled it, it sounds like either your hard drive or the hard drive controller is bad. In either case you can't fix it yourself. Other than buying a new hard drive *if* the drive itself is bad.

If you opened the hard-drive then it is no good anymore but if you didn't then it must be a problem inside your laptop.
