The animation and computer work in both of them was really good, and the second movie was probably more in tune with the game series, but I think I liked the first one best.

I enjoyed them both, but I thought that the second one was less cohesive, it really jumped around a lot. The first movie would have been received better without the final fantasy name. People had preconceived perceptions on FF and the movie didn't fit with the games.

I'd have to vote on the first one being my favorite - from the standpoint of plot, etc. It could stand alone. The second one would totally confuse someone not familiar with FFVII.
