It's been 2 days no bowel action. I can tell he does not feel well. He is very fussy and draws up his legs, and cries. His mother does not seem to concerned, however she is a very good mommy. I do not want to be to much in her business, but he is my grandson and I am very concerned? What's a grandma to do?

Give him some juice every day. That way he doesn't become constipated.

I would agree concerning the breastfed vs. the formula.
My son now 4 was breastfed and would go three days without a movement. This happened over and over and by the third day I was beside myself with worry and everytime he was ok and the bowel movements quite large. The doctor said it was ok and looking back I believe it was ok.
My daughter now 8 was also breastfed and she as a newborn would have several bowel movements a day. I cannot explain the difference but the doctors said each baby would have their own body functions. The doctor said it could even go more than three days but thankfully he never wnet that long without a movement. This was not the case with formula babies, they said they should have a movement every day.

A baby can go several days without a bowell movement. At 5 months old, my breastfed daughter, who usually went 2 or 3 times a day suddenly did not go for 4 days. I spoke to the doctor who said to give it one more day. My daughter went the next day. Call the doctor who will give advice on how to get the baby to go. This is not abnormal though.

*Edit specific - it particularly is likely the solids! attempt to evade rice and bananas (my daughter grew to become constipated with rice). upload slightly prune puree to his oatmeal, and you will have his little tushy under the bathe very rapidly! ______________________________________... What slightly cutie! truthfully, if that's not a classic trend for him, i might strongly recommend bringing him in. jointly as some toddlers do not poop for 4 days, it fairly is commonly the norm for them. as a results of fact that that's out of the conventional, there is something happening. the possibilities are each and every little thing is high quality, and the substitute in his bowel activity must be attributed to a sparkling nutrients or possibly slightly tummy computer virus, yet in this one, i might nevertheless have it checked if it would not sparkling up via the morning. meanwhile indexed decrease than are some recommendations: a heat bath, comfortable leg stretches (like a bicycle), comfortable lower back and tummy rubs, prune juice, Karo (Corn) syrup, no bananas or rice cereal. in case you're breastfeeding, attempt ingesting a valuable vast hunk of chocolate too (it tastes great and might have a laxative impact on a nursing infant). optimistically lots of the 'treatments' will artwork, and you will not might desire to hold him in. i desire he's feeling greater perfect quickly!

Is he breastfed or formula fed?

It can be normal for breastfed babies to skip days...sometimes only having one big BM per week. (Talk about diaper blow outs!) It's because the breastmilk is very well digested and there is little waste. If he is EXCLUSIVELY breastfed then it would be rare for him to actually get constipated because breastmilk is a natural laxative.

If he is formula fed, maybe he is constipated.

You could suggest that she give him a warm bath if he seems uncomfortable. She could also massage his belly in clockwise circles. Bicycling his legs may also help him if he is gassy.

I would say it's normal his bowels are just growing and can hold more now. I would give it another day to day and a half and call the pediatrician and ask just to be safe but 2 days is ok...

It is normal for babies to become constipated, especially babies on formula. However, he should see his doctor, or at least the mother needs to call the babies doc and see what the doc suggests to help the little guy! Maybe just tell her to call the doc just to be sure! Good luck; I had the same problem with my 2 children!

Yeah it is normal. My baby is breastfed and sometimes he goes 2 days without pooping. Relax it'll be okay. If it goes on for 1 week or so then go to the doc.

i wouldnt worry about it if it is only 2 days - that is pretty normal...I would start to worry if it goes more than 3 or 4...if that is the case, she should give him prune baby food or prune juice...that should help...also wiggling a rectal thermometer in his tushy ought to help get things moving, as well...these are the things our pediatrician recommended when my 4 month old got stopped up! Good luck!

if he is breastfed this is quite normal
if bottle fed he may be constipated or a bit colicky- give him some cool boiled water between feeds, i also found that a little bit of fresh squeezed orange juice or brown sugar cured my son's constipation
