I'm researching possible careers right now, and one of my main concern is the salary. How much money should the average person make a year to be able to support themselves independently (car, apartment, bills, etc)? Thanks.

It depends on where in PA. Some parts are cheaper than others. I'm working in Philadelphia and not making enough money to live anywhere but with my parents in NJ (for now anyway). Try something like salary.com to get an idea about a ballpark figure for what you should be making at a certain job.

It truly depends on where and how you live. You can live like a king in Cambodia for $10/Day and that same $10 will buy you a pack of smokes in NY. How much do you spend now? Where do you wan tto live? And what do you want to do? ............ I am assuming that people are working the same job and living where you are going to live, and are getting by...right? Then so can you, just adapt your lifestyle accordingly. And if you need some extra cash sell your books back to the website listed below. Good luck

that depends largely on where you live. I'm a recent college grad making $28,000/yr as a graphic designer in rural VA, and I'm doing fine. I'm not living in luxury or anything, but I'm definitely not starving either.
As for choosing a career, salary shouldn't be your main concern. If you find something you like to do and do it well, somebody out there will pay you enough to earn a decent living doing what you like.

First off choose a career that is always in demand. Medical- it will be going up for fifty years. Death- People die everyday and somebody has to clean up the mess and prepare the body. Sex- Sex sells always has, always will. Might i suggest a career in the elevator inspection industry. They are well payed, and if you live inexpensively you can retire in twenty years and be comfortable or in thirty and live expansively.

A rule of thumb is 3 times as much as what your rent costs.
If your rent is $1,000/mo you should be making at least $3,000 /mo
It is very difficult to tell you a specific number because the average cost of life differs a lot from city to city, state to state.

I think that a person would need at least $800 a month to live--this is almost a minimum level. If you want to be comfortable you should make over $1500 a month.
