She's been sleeping in her car seat until we started trying to switch to the crib a week ago. When she's in her crib, she gets so restless. She's mostly asleep, but tosses and "starts" a lot. She also wakes up every three hours to eat again, where she used to sleep comfortably through the night in her car seat. What can I do to help her get good sleep in her crib?

The car seat was in our room, and that's where she slept, not in the car...just to clarify.

Please trust me (although I didn't trust anyone...haha) that she WILL outgrow it. Mine did around the 3-4 month mark. She sleeps 11 hours in her crib at night! They just mature enough to do this. My daughter HATED her crib for the longest time. The minute we put her in it, wide awake! Stay strong Mama...others have been there before you and it gets better :) Big hugs!

Why not let her sleep in the car seat? She will not feel so insecure in her crib when she gets a bit older and bigger. If you insist on her sleeping in the crib at this point, put her on her side with a couple of pillows proping her up on each side. If it's not broke don't fix it. Eventually she will grow into her crib. Do not rush things, for god's sake, you have the rest of your lives. Embrace this time that is so short when they are so little. there's no such thing as spoiling them when they are so little. Hold her all you want let her be in bed with you from time to time or a little bit more than that. One day you will wake up and she will be a mean ol' teenager and you will not get to hold her and keep her close. It just goes by so fast you do not believe it. Just yesterday mine were just little now My baby is 16 and her brother is 19. I'm almost done with them. In fact my boy is on his own and i do not think i will get a chance to be his mother any longer. So come on grandmotherhood! good luck sweetheart

Make a little nest out of blankets in the crib. It's probably the being supported and surrounded by something on all sides that she likes. Try to make her crib like a car seat.

Does your baby have acid reflux? Is your baby congested? These are some reasons babies don't like to sleep laying flat. Try getting a crib wedge to raise the top part of the crib. If your baby is congested, put a humidifier in the room (away from the crib) or even in the hallway next to the room and this will help clear up the baby's congestion. Also, try swaddling the baby. Most babies find this comforting. Good Luck.

It isn't a good idea to have her keep sleeping in her carseat. Someone I know had her kid sleep in his carseat until he was four months and he developed spinal problems. Anyhoo, I suggest swaddling your baby before putting her in the crib. If you don't know how to swaddle, I put in a website that shows you how below. If she doesn't like that, I suggest co-sleeping (if you don't move a lot in your sleep). I co-slept with my son until he was 15 months. He's been sleeping through the night since he was born except for waking up to feed and falling back to sleep. I attribute it to being very secure because of co-sleeping. I also included a website with info about that. Hope this answer helps you!

P.S. Don't put a lot of blankets in the crib to help prop her up, it may be a contributing factor to SIDS.

She probably equates the position of being in the car seat to the postion of being in the womb. As she gets older she will get adjusted to sleeping in the crib and will sleep better. So the more you have her in the crib the quicker she will get used to it.

Put the crib in the car. just kiddin'

Maybe you could get one of those vibrating mattress pads or a sound machine to make soothing noises. I'm not a baby, but when I get on a plane or as a passenger in a car, I can sleep like one. I think it is because of the soothing vibrations and noises.

Put car seat in crib. My guess, though, seriously, is that the car's motion puts her to sleep, not the seat itself.
