Okay, so they investigated the Zidane incident but not the Figo headbutt...he was only punished with a yellow card during the game? Why was the Dutch player not investigated for "instigating" that incident? FIFA has not been consistent with their investigations.

Zidane gets a three game ban, Materazzi two game ban but Figo was able to play his next match...can anyone explain that?

Forzagila 11: Hey buddy...I agree with you 100%...I was just trying to understand why they made a big stink out of Materazzi exchanging a few words with ZZ but nothing came about the other incident. I think that the ban that was handed down to Materazzi is absolutely ridiculous.
Relax a little!

First of all, I still think that Zidane's three days community service, SUCKS! WHY DON'T THEY GIVE HIS GOLDEN BALL TO CANNAVARO, A CLEAN PLAYER????????????? I don't know why Materazzi got 2 days, because everyone exchanges words on the field.. and of course only Materazzi gets this. I just cannot stand Zidane, and I think he got away with this one. I also think that in Euro 2004, when Poulsen instigated Totti, and he reacted (wrongly) by spitting on him, they qualified Totti & not POULSEN.. they never even INVESTIGATED that.. but since hey, its ZIDANE, WHY NOT?

-dont like my answer?? ITS MY OPINION, SO SHUT UP [to the ones against my answer..]

It's amazing how many dumb people respond here who really have no idea what they are talking about. I'm not saying everyone. The first response was the worst from the idiot who said Portugal wasn't going to win it anyway. They were clearly on of the favorites. Lets not forgot the made it to the final of Euro 2004

First off Figo's headbutt was nothing like the Torpedo that Zidane did. He barely touched the guy. After the headbutt the guy paused for a second and then reacted and flopped to the ground.

Figo's headbutt was looked at by FIFA. FIFA released a statement about it. Their reason for not suspending him for any matches was that the referee clearly saw what happened and felt he only had to caution (yellow card) Figo. Becuase it was dealt with on the field there was no action to be taken by FIFA. That was the summary of their statement. Had the referee not seen the headbutt or had he given a red then you can be sure they would have given him a suspension.

As far as the dutch player there was nothing to investigate he was just grabbing Figo's arms if I'm not mistaken. It's been several weeks now and I don't feel like finding the video.

Zidane's head butt was more violent and you could see it was intentional as for Materazzi if no one knows why he got 2 days you where not paying attention to the beginning of the games when the captain's read a statement not to bring racism on to the field and Materazzi did just that and got what he deserved. Figo's head but was almost non existent and the dutch player took a long time to react to the supposed hit he took, the referee notice the incident and gave him the yellow card and the dutch should of gotten a yellow for faking or delaying the game. That game was so controversial that referee should have been fired after the game.

I will explain.... It is the PURPOSE behind the enquiry that matters. They wanted to exonerate ZZidane so they had to "inquire" into his headbutt in order to punish Matazzeri too. As they do not want to find Figo innocent, you know... they better just forget about the incident. HAVEN'T YOU LEARNED ANYTHING YET FROM THIS WORLD CUP ? Nothing really matters but politics ? Do you really think that FIFA cares about Zidane ? It is France he represents that FIFA wanted to elevate once again ! --- Can I tell you something else ? That match between Portugal and Holland was A SHAMBLES... I mean, Holland EXPECTING the usual favouritism from the referee and not getting it (Ronaldo injured after 5 minutes play was clearly intentional). Considering the whole mess FIFA is doing to the World Cup with their orchestrating of matches and results, I say that Figo's HEADBUTT was sensational !!!! The Portugal's stance was superb.... the whole Dirty Dutchee team should have been head butted out... instead of merely butt-kicked out !! They were women, not guys !!! Spoilt little brats expecting referee's help and not getting it because this time it was NOT in FIFA's agenda to help Holland, as it is always is, LOL !!! I feel that this so-called match fixing in Italy is another political move, therefore invented, to distract from the fact that FIFA is fixing and has been fixing World Cup and Euros Championships since the beginning. It is SO OBVIOUS that they gotta have an intelligence problem if they think the world is not spotting their game !!! That is why I didnot watch the Final and no longer care about major football championships. I hope I answered your question.

the figo incident was overlooked because that entire match against holland was crazy. everyone pretty much started to push each other and considering so many yellow cards/red cards had already been given out, it would have been a disaster for both teams.

keep in mind that france and italy were playing in the final which is the most important game of the world cup...and no one else was doing anything wrong...zidane was the only one that lost control.

because when fifa put some one in their mind ......they forget about the others and try to put them in big trouble
fifa wanted to find any thing which can make a dark mark on zidan's white track record
so they picked on this one ...and they didnt do much to materazzi he only gets a 2 game ban and he was the one who called zidane a terrorist and a filthy muslim and he also insulted his sister
so in conclusion...fifa is stupid..they make stupid raking...they announce stupid rules and desicions
any one with me?

Ok I agree they should investigate any violence that goes on in the field and punish only the violent person. Also remember that FIFA is a french federation so they have more invested when it comes to the French team

because the guy figo headbutted didn't sell it...he just stood there, and i really do not think that anyone actually saw it...plus it wasn't nearly as brutal as zidanes.
