That is definitely a racist belief...whether intentionally or subconsciously.
I believe that we all need to strive to appreciate what we have instead of what we don't. BUT!! The idea that the descendents of slaves in the U.S. should be THANKFUL for the suffering of one's ancestors and the desecration of one's native culture is ABSOLUTELY LUDICROUS.
Maybe you need to study the reasons why there is so much strife in Africa today, and you will undoubtedly find that Western colonization has played a huge role. In other words, the same perpetrators who brought slaves to the U.S. are the ones who are also systematically aiding in the destruction of their homeland.
And P.S.----the UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT committed MASS GENOCIDE against North America's indigenous peoples in order to create this "wonderful country." Should Native Americans be "THANKFUL" too?
Maybe if it were YOUR direct ancestors who suffered, and YOU had to live with the effects of racism, you wouldn't be so inclined to demand thanks.
The lesser of two evils is still evil.

Milliions of Africans were killed being brought to the States...don't see the need in that. Plus, not all of us cry racism at the first sign of trouble although it would be foolish to think it doesn't still exist. And Africa isn't the only country suffering from AIDS....I believe the United States has a little problem of their own.

Yep, it's racist. The US is not the greatest country (check global stats for: quality of life; cost of living; national debt, etc.) Not even by the greatest of hedonic statistical abuse.
Africa isn't the only place with AIDS and is only a stereotype. This is simple bigoted statements against poor nations- you just happen to want to focus on skin color. Asia is quickly rising toward pandemic proportions of AIDS.
But I'm sure you're more interested in their skin color than their culture.
It sounds more like you've already decided what you are going to think about black people and you crave solidarity on the subject. You sound like a well-indoctrinated racist. You're truly in a small minority of ignorance if you are.
It's probably better for you to start studying statistical facts and get a real academic sense of race and culture before you start spouting redundant assumptions. Try thinking for yourself instead of just parroting what you've heard from ignorant others.
Besides, unless you're a Native American your family was "brought here" too. Nationalistic bigotry doesn't make you better- in truth it makes you morally worse. Ignorance AND bigotry always seem to walk hand in hand.

Uh. Hmm.
If America did not have the benefit of all that free slave labor, would they be a superpower right now? Or would they be Brazil.
If The continent of Africa wasn't continually stripped of it's resources by Colonists - people taken as slaves, resources stripped out at rock bottom prices - would Africa be a World Power?
If you had the mental capability to think cognitively, would you be wasting everyones time with this stupid question?

you definitely are racist! It would be asinine to Thank America for the harm she has inflicted on African Americans. African Americans have been here since before the creation of America and we have made enormous contribution to America. Aids is a US biological weapon used to conquer Africa for her resources. If you think not then just study the Tuskegee Syphilis project America inflicted upon African Americans for 40 years!

It's a bit nuts to believe that. But everybody's entitled to their own opinion.
I cannot say what would have been. I can only discuss what has happened, what is happening, and what I'd like to see in the future.
I would never thank the Nazi's for touching off a war that would bring America to prominence. I would not thank the Japanese for awakening the might of our industrial complex. It isn't normal to thank someone for malicious actions just because you overcome them.

If not racist, at a minimum intolerant and ignorant. For one, it neglects to take into account the impact African slaves made on the wealth building ability of the US, in the era of slavery and subsequently. Leaving aside the significance of the contributions of early African Americans, the mere fact that the US could rely on free labor made an indelible contribution to the US economy. It also fails to take into account the impact of ripping families apart on African nations.

WOW....yeah its REALLY a narrow and racist statement to think that. Its not like blacks came over here flying on American Airlines first class, we came over in slave boats, robbed of our land, families, culture, religion, and beaten and killed, you name it. Then when we got here, we had our names changed, families broken up, forced into Christianity and were beaten and killed etc for 300 years. So if the Europeans brought blacks over willingly, and didnt take everything from them and force them into a lifetime of slavery, you might have a point.

Are you saying that American Citizenship is ample reparation for being a member of an underprivelidged class of society that is just now starting to gain some semlbance to acceptance after a history of enslavement, poverty and injustice? It seems to me that being looked down on all my life, or not given the opportunities I deserve because of my skin color would make me question your line of thought.
