if its a rescue any name if good make it at least two syllibles so it is different from commands. If from a family find something same or slightly different and they will quickly learn the new name as it sounds so like their old name. Sometimes it takes months of names to find one that "fits" the dog and their personality.

Start by calling the pet by the new name and stop using the first name, or use both names people have a real name and a nick name too! Our kitten answers and comes to us by 2 names and shes only 3 months old. Good luck.

well if its a pet from a shelter that's easy.. just call it a different name and call it that until it recognizes that name and comes to its new name but if its a old pet and it knows its name don't rename it because it will get confused :-)

ok so OH and that i are very curious about giving a sparkling residing house to LousKoonz older female Dinah (have fallen in love on the cyber information superhighway i imagine ). My OH (he's not the most tactful of people) wasn't helpful about her call inspite of the reality that and requested (in a toddler like way and expertise I somewhat were gaining expertise of cat possession/eticate etc) inspite of if it somewhat is plausible/moral to regulate a cats call. Now it somewhat is a few project I had already considered after seeing a cat on the RSPCA who appeared captivating yet replaced into observed as Ginny, my mum replaced into friends with someone observed as Ginny and inspite of the actual undemanding reality that they are though friends that that they had a huge fall out a lengthy time period decrease lower back which somewhat disillusioned my mum so I style of felt that i ought to not have a cat observed as Ginny. on an similar time as gaining expertise of in Waterstone's I were given right here for the time of a section in between the books about renaming cats. It cautioned it in circumstances the area the cat had come from a negative circumstances, helps grant the cat a sparkling initiate etc inspite of the actual undemanding reality that if the cat is older then this may in all likelihood be too a lot. In circumstances the area the cat were given right here from a large ecosystem yet you though had to regulate the decision it suggested heavily figuring out on an similar call to the unique. So for Dinah if we were to regulate it i'd have suggested some project like Dee or Nina. This techniques the how yet not the inspite of if it somewhat is ideal/moral. i'm somewhat torn as to what i imagine. For Dinah there is not some project incorrect which includes her call, it somewhat is purely Mark being fussy and that i imagine it somewhat is perhaps extremely incorrect to regulate her call. So I truly wondered what your recommendations were? EDIT: Wasn't truly soliciting for my concern - replaced into asking as a properly-loved concern, do you imagine renaming animals is ideal. must have made that clearer, sorry.

You pick a new name and start using it 100 percent of the time and drop the old name. It will learn the new name in time.

I found that choosing a name that sounds similar to the original one helps. But use the same name every time so the animal doesn't get confused.I have done this myself several times.

pick a name you are confortable with and start calling your pet with that name and at the same time use the universal body language that way your pet will understand you are calling him/her. ex. if it a dog pat your legs with your hands, if its a cat snap your finger and say missy, after they came to you pet them and say their new name. "good charlie" after 2 days they get used to it.

ahhh.......let say your pets name is Barney .... ok ? follow along
* pay close attention this is where it gets tricky
Starting today right now never again call him/her Barney ....ok ?
make up a new name say Roscoe
call him/her Rosco for now on..... thats all their is to it..
*depending on your dogs age .... if say 1 yr old are less the dog will catch on quickly / and if the dog is older then 1 yr it will take longer to catch on 2 yr 3 yr longer and so on.
* old dog say 10 yrs old are older ...... forget it you cannot
teach a old dog new tricks. its a matter of habit
